Ariza shouldn't be gambling that much, period. Ron did the same thing with Yao last year just as much as ariza does it now, and it mainly left Yao with in foul trouble or the opposing team with an easy bucket. the biggest problem is when the shooter is posting up, both ariza and ron go around the player whent he player makes his move, the player ends up open 3 feet from the rim, ron/ariza end up behind the player. Yao or no Yao, the help d isn't given a lot of time to react when the shooter is so close.

And i dont think camby for tmac makes a difference, LA would only do it if they send out camby plus other non-expiring contracts, why would we want any of those? It would leave us with even less FA money and more than likely without Camby next year either. All we'd have next year would be the fillers in the trade.

IMO Morey is only going to try and get a starting center this year if

    1. It's too good of a deal to pass up
    2. The Rockets are in a good position for the playoffs come All Star break.

My argument is not with Deke and whether he was a good B/U center, because you are right. At times he was excellent. But, his time was running out and the F.O. just went too long gambling that he would be the answer. In all the years he was the Back-up the F.O. never developed a young center to replace him and back him up in the case that their oft-injured starter was hurt. IMO it was a glaring error of management especially last year when Deke didn't come to work until mid-season. It was one of Morey's few bad gambles.

I don't see us going for a "starting" center or possible backup for Yao.

That is what we got Andersen for and Hayes is crazy good at defending most centers and even when he gets outmatched, we can put either Scola, Landry or Andersen to match them, if not on defense, then just outscore them. Despite the lack of size we have, the team has been playing great defense and the fact is, a lot of the good backup centers out there are not going to be let go easily, making it not much of a factor for us to go out and get one, especially when the entire organization gas been prepared since July for this to be a development year.

The curious thing to me is what centers some of you think the Rockets could possibly go get that would really be a substantial upgrade, especially if they are going to be relegated to back up status next year? We are not getting Amare, Bynum or Howard obviously. It seems like some of you think there is this abundance of solid centers out there and available that the rockets are just passing on... In reality most teams don't have very good centers so what would you be hoping to trade and who would you be hoping to get? Those are the most interesting things to consider when discussing trade possiblities in my opinion, and I struggle to come up with many good options there. For that reason I doubt the rockets will be making any trades for a center.

IDK about you guys, but I though we looked our best running that Yao-centric offense from when Brooks took over the starting PG job to when Yao went down last year. I mean it did get us to the 2nd round for the first time in a decade. And it was pretty damn smooth.

    Good point.

What centers could possibly be available and be worth our while to trade for?

Amare - possibly but not likely considering how he is playing and the success of the Suns. Plus it sounds like Rockets brass does not want him.

Al Jefferson - Possibly due to the lack of success the T-Pups have had as an organization since he has been there.

Okafor - Possibly due to what is going on in NO right now... which is a lot of failure. Hell if were NO I would probably call the Rockets to see what they would be willing to give up for him. They absolutely have to have some real talent and role players to put around CPaul.

No one else even really peaks my interest. I like D Anderson. I think he is going to be a very good Center / Forward in this league. I like the idea of a back up center that can come in for Yao and continue to put offensive pressure on the opposing defense. I think the Rockets are also willing to be patient with Yao's foot to see if he can return as strong as before.
