What Horry said kinda made me think a little about how good Ming is. If international power forwards gave Ming trouble (what Horry said) than how good is he going to be against NBA centers? Also in the new NBA Live game Ming towers over Shaq. Horry said the game must have been made in China! Pretty funny, but probably true.
Horry is not a Yao expert. Horry's comments on how he believes Yao will perform should not lead to judgements on Horry's character and personal life. I hope Yao will kick ass.
I agree with you on my stupidly idiotic post, there was alot of things wrong with it but I was too lazy to edit and think logically. Forgive my ignorant post because I was dizzy from playing three sets of tennis and I felt like I should comment on what Horry said. But anyway, what exactly did you have a problem with in particular and I will explain it now that I have had a few hours to get back in order.
Yes I'm sure that Yao will have a handful with the likes of Greg Ostertag, Jake Tsakalidis, Calvin Booth, etc.
The problem with Horry's comments are, besides Shaq, and Mutombo, and David Robinson, are there really any centers in the NBA? Some of the best centers are essentially PFs, Zo, Antonio Davis, Raef LaFrentz, Tim Duncan. Bottomline, the guy is putting up about 30 ppg, and 20 rpg, blocking about 5 shots per game and dishing out roughly 4 to 5 assist per game. Other then one international game where is he struggling against forwards!?
Jessh. Let the kid come here and adapt. Yes Ming is playing with the most elite forwards in the world. They will give him trouble his first few years in the league. Give the kid some time to develop and grow. He appears as though he possess one characteristic a large majority of the players in the NBA do not have, the heart to WANT to improve his game (alledgedly). If the staff can put in the time to work with this kid, and Ming is the student of the game he appears to be, then watch out centers in the NBA 3 years from now.
"the spear" is it true that we are trying to sign Goldberg to defend Shaq? I'd like to see Shaq get thrown around for a chance. Any other takers?
Horry also thinks Yao's so-called lack of communication skills will be a problem during crunch time. Why are he, Barkley, Kenny Smith and other so uninformed? os
i like horry but since when was he an expert basketball analyst. i'm thinking he knows less about ming than anyone on this board. his comments should be taken very, very lightly.
I check out this board all the time and you people are really not all there. When Horry hits a game-winning shot in the playoffs everyone says how great he is and we should bring him back to Houston, but when he says Yao is not the best thing since electricity, he is a horrible person. Horry is my favorite player in the league and has been since about half-way through his rookie year, just thought I would throw that in. Anyways I promise you, considering Horry has been a player in the league for almost 10 years, Horry can judge basketball skills much better than any of you. It is not just Horry but anyone who says that Yao Ming is not the greatest player ever drafted or the Rockets did not have the greatest draft ever immediately has no credibility in your books. Calm down people and see how it plays out, they might be wrong or they may be right. What, ya'll have seen a 30 sec. highlight reel of Ming and you think you more than anyone else in the basketball world who have all seen the same clip. My point is that I hope Ming works out but, I just do not have the same optimism as you all apparrently do and will wait to he proves himself before I start shooting everyone else's 2 cents down. You are the ones who really look foolish saying everyone else is a fool who does not have your optimism. If you were a pipefitter for 20 years. How would you feel if a comp. geek was telling you, you were doing it wrong cause he seen it done on his comp. and it was not the same way. Please, at least give the man who has been there the benefit of the doubt.
So how can "your man" Horry tell how well Ming will do in the NBA? I'm sorry, but if you think the guy has the right to hate on someone just because he has played 10 years as a role player in the NBA then you are wrong. Has Horry even seen Yoa play yet? If Horry is such a good person/player then he should let the court do the talking IF Ming will be such a bust.....
Wait a minute. We base our opinions on the comments of a number of professional scouts and NBA coaches who think Ming will turn out to be better than what someone like Robert Horry has said. Some of these people have scouted Ming for years and I am sure they have seen more than a 30 sec hightlight reel of Ming. Let me know if you want me to name everyone of them for you. Read what they have said before calling us foolish.
This debate has been beaten to death but I'll chime in. I'm with T-Man that if someone critizes Ming many people here won't stand for it. Fact is that this is one of the most controversal top picks of all time. Not all scouts are sold on him, and some of the scouts that are sold on him say, " He's not that good but he's tall and there is no other centers in the league so that warrants him being a #1 pick."(scout quoted by ESPN at some time after draft.) Thats not exactly glowing complements for the first overall pick in the draft. All I'm saying is that not every scout thinks Ming is going to be great. Oh...and for the record I was in favor of the Rockets drafting Ming and I think he will turn out to be a good center one day.
I'd like to see some criticism against Yao based on facts, to justify his predicted future failure. So far I am not seeing any. Yao bashers are using their imagination and lame excuses to look down on Yao. That's why they have no credibility.
