Sure, I mean the cops can proceed with the investigation however they see fit. If it was a battered woman without any resources and not Tiger Woods, who is probably (though maybe not) in physical danger from Elin going forward, they would probably approach it more vigorously than they will with Tiger. Whether or not the DA has enough evidence to indict is a different question. If it was just an average joe (and the sexes were reversed) - probably not unheard of for them to at least go to a Grand Jury on the evidence (which is Elin's super-fishy, allegedly changed, story and other circumstances).
For the sake of brevity, I didn't mention the special circumstances. The fact the "victim" is a male and is in no danger and the fact it's Tiger and he doesn't want them to pursue charges pretty much ends any chance of prosecution, wouldn't you think?

Au contraire, if this had not been a celebrity no one would give a ratsass about a fender bender or any non-violent events within a couple's private life. I've watched Tiger pretty closely since he was 16 and he has no public history of aberrant behavior beyond his temper with himself and an expected and acceptable amount of arrogance. So I'm willing to give him benefit of the doubt and will trust his veracity. The proponents of the salacious interpretation of this story have as much motivation to spin the facts as Team Tiger does. True though, I'm pretty disillusioned with all my heros having feet of clay. (I'm looking at you Elliot Spitzer) I'll guess "On The Highway to ...uh, Head?
