What is Moochie worth?

I just read this article & was wondering what Moochie would be worth, if the Rockets were to shop him around. While some of you may disagree, I believe that Moochie is a very effective PG & would be a starter on some teams. According to the article, there are several teams interested in Jacque Vaughn. It's my opinion, that Moochie is far better than Vaughn. What do you think Moochie would be worth in a trade & who do you think we could get?

    Miller in dark about Stockton
    By Tim Buckley
    Deseret News sports writer

Larry H. Miller maintains he doesn't know anything more about Jazz point guard John Stockton's future plans than the rest of us.
But that doesn't stop the Jazz owner from engaging in speculation as to whether or not the NBA's all-time steals and assists leader will return for a 19th season in Utah.
"I personally am hopeful, and believe that he'll come back," Miller said after a news conference earlier this week to reveal plans for the Jazz's new $5 million practice facility.
"That may be wishful thinking," Miller added, "but . . . I feel that he'll come back this coming year. But there's nothing I know that you don't."
Miller still feels it will be "late August or early September" before Stockton, as is his usual practice, informs the Jazz whether or not he will retire.
The long wait would seem to put the Jazz in a somewhat precarious situation, as the team opted not to pick a point guard in last June's NBA Draft, and several veteran points are currently available on the free-agent market, including Travis Best, former Jazz reserve Troy Hudson and ex-Stockton backup Jacque Vaughn, who reportedly is receiving interest from numerous teams, including Orlando.
If Stockton were to retire, the Jazz might be inclined to spend most or all of their mid-level salary-cap exception money ($4.6 million to $4.8 million) on an obtainable veteran point.
But by late summer, the pick of the free-agent litter could be long gone.

Stockton, Miller suggested, is well-aware of that, which is all the more reason to trust the 40-year-old is coming back.
"The longer he waits," Miller said, "the more likely it is he'll come back."

I sure some other teams see the value in Moochie Norris, so that we can trade him away. Then we can keep both Tierre Brown and Tito Maddox.

not much. Unless the owner of the other team was The Sports Guy, Bill Simmons. In that case, 3 first rounders.:D

We would be lucky to get a VERY late first rounder, or a couple of 2nd rounders for Moochie. This team needs a backup pg like Bobby Jackson. Anybody that thinks that Moochie has half the game that Jackson has, needs to stop smoking the pipe.

I understand he is a fan favorite, but he is more of the problem (of last season), then the answer for the future. We need a high energy packup PG, that will come in and change the game (for the better). Not a person to slow the game down, dribble out the clock, force bad plays and play selfish ball.

If Jeff McInnis signs elsewhere and Tierre continues to show promise, this trade might make sense for both teams.

    Houston trades: PG Moochie Norris
    Houston receives: SG Eric Piatkowski
    TRADE ACCEPTED

Moochie gets a chance to battle Keyon Dooling for the starting PG spot on a young, exciting team. Clippers get a good locker room guy and media personality.

Eric gives the Rockets a 3 point specialist off the bench to back up Cuttino and allows Tierre and Tito to stay and compete for the back up PG job.

    STATS 2001-02
Minutes per game: Eric 24.2 - Mooch 27.4
Points per game: Eric 8.8 - Mooch 8.1
Assists per game: Eric 1.6 - Mooch 4.9
Rebounds per game: Eric 2.6 - Mooch 3.0
Field Goal Percentage: Eric .439 - Mooch .398
Free Throw Percentage: Eric .894 - Mooch .751
    3-point Percentage: Eric .466* - Mooch .269
    *3rd in the league

    ROCKETS
    F: Nachbar + Rice + Morris
    F: Griffin + Taylor + Thomas
    C: Yao + Cato + Collier

One thing does seem pretty certain. As Ming, Griffin and Boki get better and better, Rudy will likely go to the small ball, 3 guard lineup less and less, which would greatly reduce Moochie's role on this team. I'm sure he won't like that, and he does have some value as trade bait. I hope he gets traded away, eventually (unles the Rockets brass thinks there is a chance that Steve's migraines will continue to be a problem).

Piatkowski would definately feel the space left by Bullard. I doubt the Clippers would be that stupid to take Moochie though. With his new contract, it will be very hard to move him.

The Clippers have Jaric as a PG. They have no need for Moochie.

Is there anything we can get from NY, Miami, or the Jazz that's useful?

I think Moochie's value is just short of Bobby Jackson's. If Vaughn is worth 4.6, so is Mooch.

We should package him and KT for a pick in the 8-12 range next year.

We should keep Moochie. I think he's the best backup in the league besides Bobby Jackson. When Stevie was out, he averaged pretty good numbers for any pg in the league. I agree, the offense would become stagnant at times but I think that was largely do to the fact that Moochie was in most cases the only person on the floor who could make something happen with the ball, but he was simply able to be shut down by good defense. He would kick the ball around and since no one else could do anything with it, he would wind up with the ball with only a few seconds left on the clock and would have to do somthing stupid like take a 30 foot shot.

Maybe we could trade Moochie for a second round draft pick, a pizza and a pad of Post-It Notes.

Now I'm thinking we trade Mooch and KT for a backup SG and a future pick.

I'm thinking we should trade for DeShawn Stevenson (who can also play the point) and a pick from the Lakers. With Stockton and Malone wearing off, this could be the perfect deal for them. The production off the bench is high when Malone and Stockton aren't playing. They don't have any backups for them, unless you count Marshall for Malone. Stevenson was their backup anyway, and didn't play much, so they won't have lost anything.

I think Stevenson can flourish when taken out of their system. Plus, we need a big backup guard.

    Cato/Ming
    MoT/Griff/T-Mo
    Rice/Nachbar/T-Mo
    Mobley/Stevenson
    Francis/Tierre/Stevenson

I like this team better than ours. We get rid of Mooch's contract, our logjam at PF, and gain a backup S with possible 6th man potential.

In all seriousness Mocch has some trade value. But to think that he's worth a first rounder is absurd. He is a marginal NBA talen. Any GM that would giver a first rounder for a marginal backup PG should be committed.

Moochie is worth a 4 year deal for 14 million.

When was the last time you saw a backup PG drafted in the first round?
