My wife was listening to NPR and heard Rockets team physician Dr. Bruce Mosely on a show called Talk of the Nation today. Every Friday, they do a show on science and he was part of a Baylor study on arthritis of the knees. After discussing the study and taking phone calls, the interviewer asked about how the knees of the newest Rocket, Yao Ming, were.

Dr. Mosely said that actually it was his feet they were more concered about because so many big men have had problems with their feet. He commented that, like most big men, his feet are a different shape than most people and that they felt like they would be able to work with him to avoid long-term injuries that would effect his career. He said they will have custom shoes made for him and do some other things to keep from having any problems but that they expect him to have a long career in the NBA.

Here's the Real Audio link...forward to the 29:40 mark to hear the part about Yao...

It really shows they did a very thorough exam of this kid and they are thinking ahead big time.

It's good to see they are takin special precautions to prevent any foot injuries. God knows we don't need another Zydrunas Ilgauskus here.

custom made shoes sounds good. thats what they did for smits but it was too late. maybe if they never let him play a game in the nba without the custom made shoes he could still be playing.

Are you stupid JW? It wasn't an anti-Yao post! I love the fact that they picked up Yao. I'm excited! It was a J O K E. You know, something to make you laugh. You need some suppositories or something to release all that built up anger and chill out! :D

Chill out kids! Put out that little fire! I think it's great to hear that someone is looking for our guy(Ming). They just want to make sure he will be around for a long while.

    Great info Jeff!!:)

Maybe Steve can give Ming the number to Reebok since they made him such nice custom shoes.

Jeff, you are everywhere! Do you have some kind of media room at home where you keep 4 radios, and 10 televisions going simultaneously while you surf the web. That comment goes for Clutch as well.

    Unbelievable.

I cant see how the game of basketball could be racial at all, Heck I mean you have blacks, whites, mexicans, germans, I think there may even be a jew in the league, and you never hear of anything racial until now? Asians....I fail to see where RACE will be an issue in the NBA....its been a world wide game since 84 ;)
