ESPN Radio reported the Max for Baron Davis was 89 over 6 yrs. to resign with his own team How is Steve's higher? Is it draft position? Rocket River
The max will be the same for both Baron Davis and Steve Francis. But like B-ball freak posted, the exact value won't be determined until the salary cap is set in the next week or so, since the maximum salary is based off of the value of the salary cap. The discrepancy in dollar figures is likely due to discrepancies in what various sources think the max will be set at based off of their projected salary cap.
I thought Baron Davis was demanding a trade. Sounds like it must have been leverage. I wonder if the Rockets hesitate by requiring a lot of medical tests before they offer the max, if Steve will follow suit and start dropping trade hints. Maybe he will tell Troy to post it on this board to move his negotiations along.
JBC-From what I've heard, Baron declined the max from the Hornets because he doesn't like the way Shinn runs the organization. Not really about leverage at all. mfclark-I'm not sure even when this year's salary cap is set, that we'll know the max. Won't a max contract for Francis be based off the percentage next year's salary cap? I recall a discrepancy in the reported numbers for Pierce and Carter last year for this year.
I don't think Baron's play even warrants the max. I think at the most he would deserve around Mo Taylor money. Francis definitely deserves the max though, without him we would be salt on a slug.
wait....how can you say that baron don't deserve the max whilst francis does? i'm sorry but if anything, they are virtually the same type of player w/ the same type of talent.
Won't it be funny if they traded francis for davis? I mean if i were a gm or coach i would trade francis due to his injuries, and his gm wanna be attitude. If what people are sayin is tru that mother fu**er is trying to handcuff our team!!! But he's still my favorite player.
'Hi my screenname is stevie franchise and i think we should trade that mother fu**er ...but he's still my favorite player' is that what you meant stevie?
Steve deserves the MAX Chad Ford for ESPN insider thinks so too. FORD: Fifteen players may be a little low. Here's my list of players I think are worth the max (in no particular order). I've excluded a few great players, like Alonzo Mourning or Grant Hill, who, due to illness or injuries just wouldn't command the max anymore. I came up with 23. Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Jason Kidd, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Dikembe Mutombo, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Andre Miller, Jermaine O'Neal, Ray Allen, Baron Davis, Vince Carter, Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Francis, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Karl Malone, Michael Olowokandi, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Shawn Marion, Chris Webber, Gary Payton. Of Course, Baron made this list also.
He is a top 5 center. That shows how much teams need big men. Proof lies with the Rockets: Collier has a spot on the team.
Maybe I'm just slow to see it, but I'm still searching for what's so special about Baron Davis. Yeah, he looks like a good player. But I just don't see anything that special. The Hornets have plenty of talent, but couldn't get out of the 1st round. Davis doesn't have the same shot that Francis does. He's probably a slightly better distributor. Put him in the West, and I think he'd merely look like a pretty decent player... not a star.
i think he's on par with steve b/c both have their strengths and weaknesses. actually, they're like parallels of one another. scoring-- stat-wise steve and player wise steve rebounding-- steve passing-- baron steals -- baron shooting-- they both shot 41.7% last year FTs-- steve 3pt-- baron has a better shooting touch from 3 point range the statistical difference in all the categories (sans FT) are almost virtually the same. they are both athletic and can penetrate to the hole. it's like how some guys prefer blondes and some prefer brunettes....all on how the guy sees it.
Steve has migraines. Baron has had previous knee problems. In both cases, their future could be in jeopordy if the problems present themselves in the future.
