Acquiring Ellis would mean that we would lose a free agent next year. I like Ellis better than Brooks, but I'll keep Brooks a couple more years for cheap and add a good free agent before we have to eventually pay Brooks. Ellis just isn't that big of a bargain with that contract.
1. It's not going to happen. 2. Brooks will be great in a few years. No sense trading him now while Ellis has just capped his potential.
BOB - SHHHHHHH.... Don't use logic when speaking to the peanut gallery, they will not understand. DD
Efficiency is not all about scoring, basketball isn't all about logic. Rafael Araujo dominated in college, wouldn't it be logical to assume he would at the very least be a decent role player in the NBA? Just because a player has the highest FG% doesn't automatically mean he should be the one getting the ball most of the time. Odom has a lower FG% than Maggette but he is 2x more efficient than Maggette because he passes the ball and sets his teammates for easy looks. Its the same thing with Maggette-although he shoots at a very good percentage by refusing to pass the ball when his teammate is in a better position to score he's bringing the team FG% down. And when a team that is already brimming with shot happy guys start calling you "bad p*rn" you know you're bogging the offense down. At best Maggette is a 6th man for a championship team, and he's making 8 mill. And he stopped playing good D as well. When is paying 8 mill for a 6th man with no D a good thing? Same thing with Ellis. Sure he's better than Brooks overall, he's also coming from injury and is making 11 mill this season. That's how much we're paying Scola, Landry and Ariza combined! I'd rather pay that amount to someone who isn't undersized
I wouldn't make that trade for cap flexibility reasons. If salaries were equal, I wouldn't hesitate. But Ellis makes what? 13 times as much money as Brooks? Is he 13X the player? I don't think he's anywhere close to that. Were I under the impression that he's all we needed to contend, then I'd do it anyway. But I'm skeptical.
How has Brooks not reached his potential but Ellis has capped his potential when Ellis is younger than Brooks?
Yea Monta hasnt been efficient since his injury but hes also played out of position there. No I wouldnt trade Brooks for Monta because I would need a Baron Davis to put next to him.
Injuries I suppose, Ellis seems to have regressed since that magical year and doesnt look as natural a PG as Brooks does.
Ellis may be a bonehead when it comes off the court, but the dude can ball. Some of you need to take off the homer glasses off. Aaron Brooks is a good player, no question, but he'll never be a great player and neither will Ellis. Ellis makes more money sure.....but when he is playing he deserves every cent of his paycheck. Like said and done, Brooks has way too many noticeable flaws and weaknesses and ways to expose him. It's hard to do that with Ellis. Brooks is the better jump shooter, but everything else belongs to Ellis.
He's playing pretty good this year though. It's really hard to evaluate him with Don Nelson and that crazy situation Nelson has put the Warriors in.
