Try different Dimm slots. I've had computers before that would freeze if RAM was in a certain slot. I still think that it could maybe be heat. It just seems to random to be much else. Make sure your heatsink/fan is seated properly on the CPU, and that the fan is running. After it's been going for a while, touch the heatsink. How hot is it? Other possibilities are bad ram (2 bad dimms? I doubt it, but I have seen it before), bad processor (I've only ever had one bad AMD Athlon processor, but it had random lockups and turned out to be the processor), PCI card problem? (Remove all your PCI cards and see if it works okay -- if it does, then perhaps you have one bad PCI card. Put them in one at a time to see -- just like RAM), bad motherboard (unlikely, but still it does happen), bad power supply (maybe, but I've never seen a bad power supply do something like this before. random reboots sure, but not lockups), is your AGP card getting overheated? Check to see that your video card isn't getting too hot.
Posted fouir hours before dod's comment: Vengeance, I tried what you said and it seems the ram is not the problem. With each standalone stick my computer froze... im back to feeling hopeless So, what else could this be now that we have ruled out the RAM Note: As I inspected the RAM stick I noticed the Kingston brand name on there... maybe its not as ****ty as I thought.,. COME ON Dunk, is your age really that big of a handicap? Get on the ball! Vengeance, Thats alot of different problems, I thought it had been narrowed down. I better just let the company that sold me the computer fix under my warranty, dont you think? Im going to austin for the weekend in a few hours, thanks for everyones help and I have some more questions for when I get back.
I usually read and respond as I go along. It looked as if you were clueless as usual, so I thought I'd throw something at you. But then I've got no worries... all my pc's are working... lol. Good luck Droopy... sounds like you don't know what you're doing.
CounterStrike = Motivation. Hey Drewp, I heard when you use a burned copy of CounterStrike it puts a worm on your computer. I betcha that's the problem -- You wormy!
THE GUY WHO CHECKED IT OUT FOR ME TOLD ME THE PROCESSOR WAS OVERHEATING. HE SAID IT WAS 16 DEGREES CELSIUS TOO HOT (THATS LIKE 50 FRIGGIN DEGREES).... oh **** I just looked up from the tv and I have been typing in caps. I reapplied some glue to some places and it the fan started cooling it properly. what else can I do to prevent this?
well you could leave your case open if the noise bothers you, or if you have young ones around that might not be a good idea otherwise replace the fan that is attached to the heatsink- if that looks easy, if not, just replace the whole darn thing oh yeah... and Glue??
I had a watercooled peltier setup but I had condensation issues (I used antifreeze and a freezer instead of a fishtank) so it's in the closet anyone interested?
