I just said it. I don't care how long he's been with the team. He needs to be escorted out of town by HPD's finest, and the gates locked behind him. I know football is a team game, blah blah blah, but the weight of our last two losses falls squarely on his shoulders. For someone who is making 1.4 million dollars, you have to hit those kicks. You just do. I know there are a million reasons why we're 5 and 5, but Brown is one reason why we're not 7 and 3. Cut the slack, guys. If the guy can't make a field goal with the game on the line (which he's proven he hasn't), then what good is he. I guess I should edit this post and say this: I actually had a dream last night that Brown kicked that field goal, and it went out of bounds on the left sideline at the 20. That's when you know you have no faith. Seriously though, I think Brown would be the perfect way for this team to show its players that if they're not going to be winners, they're not going to be on the team. Someone has to be the scapegoat.
Meh, knee jerk reaction. Kris has been pretty clutch so far in his Texans career with the exception of the season we went 2-14 and won the Bush Sweepstakes (that turned out to be the Mario Sweepstakes). I have confidence in him...for now.
Honestly, if he misses any more FGs that he should make the rest of the way, we should be looking for a new Kicker in the off season. Sure, it doesn't mean an automatic win if he makes those but it gives us a chance at winning. Missing it does not.
KB has earned some slack. Dude was the only clutch thing about this franchise for the last 7 years. I don't expect him to miss again all year.
We pay him to make kicks. He's not earning his pay. Time to go. Brad Lidge is more clutch than this guy right now.
Ian Howfield was shown the gate for the same transgression, i.e. not rising to the pressure of a game situation... but that's not my point. What we have here is the difference between a player who wins on one side of the table, and one who pays on the other side. Jeff Fisher still had a timeout to give at the end of the game with the Texans field goal unit was on the field and, as it turns out, had all the gamesmanship power in his hands. As a result, Kris Brown had no rhythm- when was Fisher going to ice him? I'm convinced he fully expected that, and ended up yipping it. Game over. P-W-N-D. What challenge is it to hit long FGs consistently when there are low stakes and low expectations? Is it really a challenge to split the uprights when your team is 2-14 and has no chance to win anything of substance? Hey, is Al Del Greco still available?
Yes-the guy has been clutch and has earned some slack. But lately----namely the last 2 games where he shanked'em----he is working his way out he door. Continuing this way might earn him a dubious nickname like our beloved Al Del Miss-o. I'm thinking "Big Miss Kris". Anyway, anybody in the Texans organization that continues to make the same mistakes that keep us from getting any better has got to go!!!!!! We've seen a lot where jobs are on the line because guys start earning a dubious reputation: Gary Kubiak with his challenges/game management Jacoby Jones with muffed punts-fixed hopefully Steve Slaton fumbles-my god everyone was holding there breath last night Kris Brown becoming unreliable If i had my choice-Kubiak would go. I think we have too much talent not to be better than this. We have seen how a coaching change can turn teams around and I am all for it. Kubiak is an improvement but he isn't gonna get us there.
Kris Brown dropped so many easy passes. Kris Brown let the Titans rush for 200+ yards. Kris Brown didn't stop Britt or Lendale White at the goal line. Kris Brown dropped Vince Young's errant passes for easy interceptions. Kris Brown punted the ball horribly. Kris Brown rushed for only 57 total yards. Kris Brown put NO PRESSURE on the opposing quarterback and recorded NO SACKS. Kris Brown, lastly, let Rob Bironas hit 2 field goals. That darn KRIS BROWN! FIRE HIM!!!! Go criticize the entire team, gentlemen. You can't let it come down to one player and then blame him for missing what YOU think is an "easy" play. It is preposterous that you want to crucify him after being a solid kicker, but failing in the last 2 games and losing possibly 4 games of the season. If he would have made the field goal at the end of last night's game, you'd be putting him on a pedestal. I am glad you said "honestly", 'cuz I always thought you were lying on all other posts...
Big deal...he pulled the damn kick. I would expect a kicker who is snake bit to pull it some. That's why I would have preferred the Texans run a play to the endzone on 3rd down instead of setting him up in the middle of the field. That's too easy...let him kick from the left hash. Kickers practice every FG imaginable to train for these situations and Kris Brown is no exception. Though I am shaken in my confidence of Kris Brown I'll give him a pass because I know how clutch he can be and how hard he is going to work the rest of the season to make sure he doesn't miss again.
...and we pay mario to sack the qb. don't see that happening too much this year? What would you suggest we do with him? ...we pay dunta to intercept the ball and what did he do last night? dropped a sure pick... we should ditch him too bottom line is, if a team isn't clicking ON ALL cylinders, it's tough to win...
i understand what you're saying...and i don't know if i'd cut him or not. depends on who else is out there, and i'm unaware of that. but it's not just that he missed...but when he's missed and the degree of his miss that scares me going forward. he was lined up for a straight shot on that last one. after the Indy game, i heard marcus coleman say on the radio, he knew kris was gonna miss that FG there in Indy because he was on the hash mark...and kris hates it that way. so on that last play, i was thinking, "they're going to set him up in the middle of the field to help him out...because distance isn't the issue." so they did. and he had one right in the middle of the field to work with...kick it hard and kick it straight...no angles. and the ball didn't even hit the net behind the goalpost. seriously, that's not bad....that's awful. the texans are going to be in tough, tight games for the rest of the season. i promise you, he's going to have another meaningful field goal to kick. if i'm the texans, i wanna make damn sure my kicker isn't mentally fried.
