If Yao ming does become a star, will "away" fans use racism to keep his morale down?

I've seen some pretty low blows, Jason Kidd being called a wife beater during the celtics-Nets series. How will Yao feel when some laker fans has a sign that says "Shaq loves his Chow Mein" or something degrading as such. Also, there were alot of NBA fans booing Yao Ming at the draft. Any player ,even with the strongest will, will have their morale lowered. Any thoughts?

    No.

Sorry, if Ming became successful in the NBA , the Rockets must be kicking ass and he would not care.

I am sure Ming is somewhat condintioned to this negative behavior already from China.

How can calling Kidd a "wife-beater" be the same thing as racism?

I called Kidd a wife beater and will do so again when he shows his ugly mugg at the laptop.

I cant wait to call Iverson a "jail-bird" when he shows up.

That is not racism. Its merely trying to frustrate the hell out of your opponent. Its called home court advantage and the Rockets are in dire need of some more fans like me.

It is not racism, but those were pretty low blows. When fans want to ridicule Yao, they will definitely say something offensive about Chinese or their chinese culture. You have to remember, there will be plenty of people that will hate Yao when the rockets do beat their team. And some fans do extreme things for "home court advantage".

For example, this writer for a local paper compared Yao Ming to a chinese dish for shaq. Yao might will defintely feel alienated with comments like those.

I guess you like to boo when the opponents' starters are announced too. Nice. Like Jazz fans. I guess it wouldn't bother you if we played dirty too. Whatever it takes, right? I don't want to win that way.

Yao won't feel guilty for someone else's racism.

It'd be funny if Yao turned out to be a hot head, and decided to rush the stands after a fan insulted him

My dad taught me to never hate unless I had a reason. I ended
up telling people " I really, really, dislike Shaq." So I wouldn't ever
use words like that to insult players.Usually I just boo the players.
I know, I know, it sounds like I'm in the Brady bunch, but I'm not.
    Maybe I'm not alone?

I agree, the "wife beater" chant was really low considering Kidd had already paid for his crime and patched things up. Plus his wife and kid had been attending the games, but had to stop because of the rude fans.

What the hell? Everyone boos the opponents lineup! Are you kidding me?! Jazz fans, despite our view of them as a$$holes, are damn good fans and always support their team. Arco fans, supposedly the best in the league, always boo the opponents starting lineup. There's nothing low about it. Its what you're friggin' supposed to do! Sometimes I just don't understand you guys...

Actually we should be worried about the Home fans here..
what if he screws up and some redneck shouts something derogatory to the big fella and a China decent fan hears this man and in turn says something else back pointed to racism.

Inturn you have what most call a riot or a brawl in the stands....

I feel real bad for him considering the pressure he has on his shoulders being the #1 pick and the expectations everyone has of him.....

Alot think he is gonna come and be the savior for the Rockets, hell we all dream of this and he might fool everyone...
He is a Rocket now, and no matter how much he screws up or makes mistakes, he is supported by the real fans as long as he wears the jamas!:p

Even if he didn't know any english, I think he may take offense to some crazy fans with a poster that has Shaq peeing on a Chinese flag. Hopefully fans wouldn't go that overboard, but there are a lot
of drunk idiots in the stands. Hopfully none of you do this, right?

no way! cato will start far and away more games than your boy Ming. Cato, is the front runner, for most improved player next year.

Ming will be asking Cato for advice.

    Ming: How do basketball?
    Cato: What?
    Ming: How do basketball?
Cato: Oh, how do you play basketball
    Ming: How do basketball?
Cato: You understand the words that are comin outta my mouth?
    Ming: I'm next!
    Cato: What?
