This is a goofy question; rap serves the same purpose as most popular music over the last century: cynical, black starving artists and sheltered middle-class whites trading slang, style and life experience for disposable income and social standing.

This made me laugh out loud :)

It really shouldn't and doesnt' matter where you live or are from to be a hip hop fan. I think its ridiculous.

I don't get the hate to a poster who contributes to the site. Yeah he might say things I don't agree with sometimes, like the references to UH and stuff but I agree with alot more then that especially the love for the 90's teams!

    Represent!

Terry Kath was a god- when he died, Chicago became a shell of their former selves, and pete cetera's "silly love songs" dominated. i saw them on SNL shorly after Donnie Dacuss joined as his replacement- just wan't the same band.

the first two albums were killer, third pretty good, and i'll always have a spot for "Dialog" from Chicago 5 (their first single disc set) in my personal playlist.

hmmmm, perhaps that could be the D&D theme song...

It was a hit for them, the video was a rare find, and he probably just liked it.

Hip hop is international. I once saw a mural of 2pac in E.S; it was probably painted by deported gang members but still..It's international.

Posters who notoriously attack other posters making threads about being attacked. I'm in the twilight zone. Don't get on that ship! they broke the code...

I agree stupid thread and stupid poll. So what if you live in Austin and are whiter than a Jim Petersen but listen to rap. I mean I'm Asian grew up in Texas and listen to Irish music. Nobody in Ireland was offended by it.

Tinman if you want to talk about the greatness of Lewis Lloyd set to LL Cool J go ahead and the next time I talk about the Rockets greats of the past I will post this:

This is almost as ridiculous as that poll asking whether you had to be an alumnus of a college in order to be a fan of the team.

    It's a pity
that Austin is a great city
    that moe doesn't like
    that we have to fight
    for our right
    to party
    to hip hop
    whether we're at the Marq
reminiscing when Dream block John Starks
or at home watching 106 and Park
we like to work and we like to play
    driving down lamar st
listening to today was a good day
    by ice cube
    i don't these clutchfan newbs
that forgot about the championship years
all the blood sweat and tears
    all the fans cheer
you hear that guy at the summit yelling "cold beer"
in austin bevo is our steer
    shiner is our beer
the weather and our minds are clear
we can listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn or 2pac without fear
that people will call us wierd
    but we won't stop
    and we won't drop
    the ball
    like darius heyward bey
that's what i got to say

Austin THUG LIFE is the place to be
You can find tinny on 6th street sippin Chai Tea
Throwing up gang signs in a Maxwell jersey
Don't mess with him son, he's Circle C OG
Straight up mean-mug a homeless guy like he's KG.

He's got to represent, cuz ATX is hardcore
Thats why he wears a black bandana when he's at the thrift store
Asian dude decked out in FUBU and Sean John
Tried to call up his posse, but them cats was long gone
Join Date: 99, thats his excuse to whine.
Starting threads in the GARM that are assanine
Screaming at n00bs, He's always quick to boast.
Then somebody fires back at him
    And its "report this post"

He's a reppin on South Congress
he'll pop a cap in your ass!
That is, right after he takes his kids to class
Acting like a gangster but the only caps he pops
Are from video-game guns, when he's playing xbox

His main man is DaDakota, I mean he loves that boy
But I'm sure they're "just friends" like Shipley and McCoy
So Let me back it up for you, let me make things clear
Longhorn Fan bragging about his love for Steers?
Bevo is your steer and shiner is your beer?
Sounds like rhymes concocted by a civil engineer
Back in the 80s you were Tears for Fears
Then you moved to Austin to lead the longhorn cheers
But Y'all were rocking USC jerseys in the Chris Simms years
You know what they say about Texas... Steers and Queers!

I mean its pretty sad that this UT alum
comes up with weak rhymes that are so damn dumb
Banging his Ralph Sampson doll like a snare drum
I could pontificate more, but for now I'm done

So Let me leave it at that
    I'll abide like Lebowski
You're Jamarcus Russell son... Straight up GRADKOWSKI'D
Just another dude from the suburbs, trying to act fly
And you just got SERVED by moes@cougarhigh.

    OUT.
