The fact that I have not been able to get this topic off of my mind for the past couple of hours is beginning to worry me a little. But it seems that a simple concept called "truth" is being buried under a pile of posts, and I feel compelled to try to dig it out. I am a regular person with absolutely no sources of any kind (present company excluded of course), as I assume most of the other members of this BBS are. As such, I also know absolutely nothing about NBA contact negotiations or the rules governing them. But this whole mess is beginning to piss me off. After going back and reviewing the posts that started all of this, I have come to the conclusion that popeye did nothing wrong. There are people in and out of the Rockets organization who are paid, quite well I am sure, to know what is legal and what isn't, and to know when to keep their mouth shut. If the Rockets were doing something that we couldn't talk about publically, then it never should have made it past the door. Or popeye's source should have made it absolutely clear that it was for his ears only. They are big boys and don't need "protecting". The blame lies completely on the people who were doing something wrong, and that doesn't include popeye. This is a public forum open to any body who knows how to use a keyboard, not a national newspaper. We are here to get the latest gossip about the Rockets, not win an award in excellent journalism. We, the regular joe fan, should not be the ones that have to decide what to keep quiet about. My conclusion: popeye's source screwed up or screwed him, one or the other. If the source got in trouble for it, he deserved it. I would hope that we could all thank popeye for trying, instead of shooting the messenger, so to speak. ------------------
Crisco- good point. People did not tell popeye to leave. Sure, there were a couple of people like HP and Clutch that warned him of the dangers, but that's hardly telling someone to leave. He chose to leave on his own, for a reason I don't understand. But guys, let's stop making popeye threads. The last day or so it's been popeye this popeye that. I've spoken to popeye via email, and he is very settled with his decision I will tell you. Telling him that he did nothing wrong and continually bringing up the subject for days on the BBS won't bring him back. There is an old saying time will heal all wounds. That's what we have to do here. Just give Popeye time to get over this. This is a very sore subject for him. If you want him to come back, go back to normal BBS life and talk about the Rockets. Then, maybe he'll have something to say and come back. I guarantee you as long as he is the focus of attention from this whole BBS, he's not going to come back. This isn't what he wants to talk about. He knows we want him back and miss him. Now drop it. Two days is enough. Back to the Rockets! [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited June 01, 2000).]
The Cat - You signature is very ironic. I am sure that you just forgot to change it.... ------------------ "You couldn't have stuck a pin up his @#! with a jackhammer. Yeah, I'd say he was pretty tight." -- Barkley on Pheonix Sun Chris Carr(...I think) after he missed a game winning free-throw.
Whoops, forgot about that one. I edited it though. [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited June 01, 2000).]
