The people complaining in this topic are the people who had unrealistic expectations of Ariza coming into this season. MLE/yr, not $20 mil/yr or even $8 mil/yr. Just because he was the biggest offseason 'splash', doesn't mean he's going to impact the team the way an allstar would. He's going to become a very good 2nd or 3rd option.
Ariza's defense against Johnson was outstanding in the endgame. Enabled us to tie the game His endgame offense though was bad. He traveled then missed a 3-pointer. He really should play within his skill set and re-think this "I am the 1st or 2nd option on this team" mindset. He should play off his teammates like he was comfortable with in L.A. and just relax. Don't pressure himself too much.
give him more time to get nestled in before you judge his play, as long as he brings it every night, i think we got the better of the deal. he seems like a young artest, except not as strong. i think as he matures, he'll improve. you gotta remember he's still a kid.
He is a role player, that is trying to play beyond his skillset. Eventually we will get a star player and Trevor will fall in line. DD
I think trevor is playing ok. He like everyone else could be more consistent. The problem is the hierarchy is out of balance. No matter how u cut it, tracy or yao are the first and 2nd options. After that, brooks, scola, ariza are next, but not in that order, just who is going well. Whatever happens with tracy followed by yao coming back, the rox kinda have enough support guys to the point they don't need yao or tracy to be dominant for long stretches in the game. Tracy and yao makes everyone jobs easier and anyone that says otherwise is a fool.
They do, but actually they are creating great looks, a lot of wide open shots are simply being missed. DD
the thing is with his MLE, he's taking all-star # of shots, and missing them at a rafer-alston's like rate. my expectations of ariza has always been opportunistic offensive player.
Just think about all those steals and dunks, and then realize that his shooting percentage still sucks..... I mean he is struggling offensively BIG time. DD
you say a player is struggling if you know he can do better in that same role. ariza will NEVER do well when he has to take more than 15 shots. NEVER. he is in the rafer role (always playing big minutes, and always missing tons of shots). when adelman tells him he no longer has the green light, that is when he will play much better.
just curious, does that mean you'd say shane is playing ok too if he shot more and kept his percentages? Because they're shooting about the same percentage, except for the FT line.
Maybe the Tracy of 07-08 and Yao of last year. But restructuring of a foot has to be right up there with the unpredictability of microfracture. We just don't know what we're going to get from either of them to make such statements anymore.
Trevor shouldn't shoot 17 shots a game and shane couldn't shoot that many if he tried. Shane is a 20 minute guy onn a good team. He's a guy that has to be butt naked to get a shot off. Trevor has shown he doesn't need nearly as much space. On a good rocket team, trevor would get 11 or 12 fga. Shane played well tonight, but we've seen him being probably the most inconistent rocket starter.
he's been doin that for the past 10 games. he's like rafer alston. we won with rafer too, jsut like we are winning with ariza. that doesn't meant they don't suck.
Ariza doesn't suck he just has a role that he doesn't belong in. Bring down his shot attempts and his efficiency will go up. I can't wait till we bring McGrady (or some other ball handling wingman) to play along side Ariza.
but you didnt answer my question you said trevor has been playing ok, but so far i'm assuming you'd agree shane has not. So is it just the attempts, which some would just call being aggressive? They play different D, but neither has been better than the other, just different. Ariza's steals more, but gives up more easy baskets, shane vice versa.
what i meant to say is ariza "sucks" at this role. i actually am still very high on ariza. and i know this role doesn't suit him. what i don't understand is that after 9-10 consecutive VERY VERY bad games, adelman still allows him to have the green light. i simply don't get that.
ii was hoping that would sto as of last night. I can't believe he still got 19 shots off. I guess part of the problem is he plays so many minutes, almost 40 a game. Thats too much if he's going to have a green light. Scola is too good to be limited or kept at less than 10 shots a game. He and landry need to be the go to players in the halfcourt when they're in. Both need 13+ shots a game, with landry getting closer to 16 or 17.
People tell you over and over that this is a year to develop our young players. Why don't you get that?
