chill out??? no big deal, huh?? ok...the koran is a fictitious lie based on silly little fairy tales...think that's offensive to anyone??? is it different when this sort of criticism is pointed at a christian?? (please note i'm not asserting the above statement about the koran!)
okay dude, calm down. everyone has the right to their opinion. i goto church and im down with some of the stuff in the bible, but im not getting my panties in a knot over a SILLY comment on a message board on the internet. i doubt ninja poo knew he was going to upset anyone THAT much with what he said. you love god, you love the bible... good for you. the end.
MadMax, if the basis for your relationship with your God is basically blind faith then how is Christianity any different from any other religion that has appeared since the dawn of mankind? What makes your belief more accurate or more correct than those of the civilizations and cultures that came before you?
Hey Azadre, I was hoping you could explain something to me since you are well educated in the Islam religion. I know Christianity and Islam are two very different religions, but how many similiarities to they possess? Actually, a muslim friend of mine said that the Quran was similar to the Bible in that they both explained the beginning of man with the garden of eden and Adam and Eve...is this true? Thanks. Oh BTW, This discussion is awesome. Didn't know there were so many people on this board that thought the same way.
Severe Rocket Fan, Though times have been turbulent since the Crusades between the Muslim and Christian world, Islam and Christianity are the two closest religions to each other. Islam is the only religion to believe that Jesus was sent by God. Islam though sees Jesus to be a messenger of God (like Abraham, Moses, Muhammad) and not the son of God. Islam believes in the Virgin mary and the immaculate conception of Jesus and that he was a blessing to Mankind. Islam believes that the Bible is the texts of Christianity, but that through hundreds of years, the texts were spoiled and changed by men. That is why the Quran (Koran) today, is the EXACT same as the one a thousand years ago. From a scientific perpective, I see a line in the Quran that states " God created man from a single, sensitive drop of blood" Though I am by no means a scholar, I see this as the theory of evolution that shows how from bacteria (sensitive drop of blood) evolving into more complex organisms until humans are finally one outcome. I think that many things were unable to be truly explained at the time, and some may still be today. There are many other examples in the Quran that actually discuss the big bang theory, and that the circular motion of the round earth in the solar system. I will try to pull some of those up when I have time. I am far from a "blind faith" or being brainwashed, but scientific truth does compell me to believe in something. Just because I was taught something as a youth will not inhibit me from questioning its truth. I believe that as pure as God is, humanity is not pure. And the institution of religion and the idea of God has been manipulated by mankind. Though I am muslim, I do not like to adhere to any "group" or "sect" simply because it seems though it is primarily used to benefit someone else's power position.
Cool, thanx Khan. It seems that Islam actually explains somethings scientifically. Which is great. I always had trouble believeing in some Christianity writing because it never explains how things were made or the laws that apply to them...just simply that they were and we had to accept it. I would think that as omniscent God is, he would've at least let us in on some knowledge that might actually help society, say like, how to fight disease, the secrets of physics, biology, chemistry, how genetics work, and what we should and shouldn't do with it. Hmmm, I guess he was too busy discussing other "important" things to tell us that.
So are broad-based generalizations and comments meant more to provoke rather than add something substantial to a conversation.
And magic spells. I love Jesus, he was a great man, a good person. He was not David Blaine though, I honestly dont think he died and came back to life. Sorry. You are blind though. You're angry because you've based your life around something, and you've grown to love it and believe it to be you purpose in life, and when it's challenged you lash out and condemn me and say I'm ****ed up and blasphemous and I try to be controversial for no good reason. But look at the world around you, with all we know today, I can't believe people still smoke, people think weed isn't harmful, people litter, people have unprotected sex. The only "god" I have is the laws of nature. I know for a fact, I've seen with my own eyes that everything cycles, the seasons, night and day, so on and so forth. Why entrust my life to a spirit in the sky that won't even talk to me, will never be my friend when I'm alone, will never feed my kids. ????
DM, I think Max's responses have been perfectly appropriate, so do not understand his need to "chill out." You are right that he should ignore stupid comments, but he was not really overreacting, imo. Ninja, Seriously, what is your point? If it is to be childish and useless, then you are succeeding. You contribute nothing and only make your side less appealing - since you only use empty bumpersticker-like ideology. Look to your own last post. Well, there you go...now I will chill out, lol.
Islam believes that Jesus was a man, not the son of God, and that he was a Prophet of God. Islam also does not believe that he died and came back to Life.
Thanks F.D. Khan for posting what SRF wanted to know. Severe Rockets Fan check out http://thetruereligion.org if you want more infromation about Islam.
For those of you who were raised to follow Christianity but decided it could not hold all the answers: have any of you found anything better? Any satisfactory explanation of who made the world (or who started the Big Bang, or just where it all came from in the first place)? An explanation of why we are here and what purpose we are supposed to fulfill on earth? Any way to explain miracles and supernatural activity? Any faith you could live by and truly believe? (this is not being rhetorical or trying to provoke: I'm truly curious. Assuming this thread doesn't get locked first for other reasons. )
Can anyone tell me what the end was all about in the movie Stigmata? It said something to the effect that the Church covered up something that was discovered. Man I saw the movie a long time ago and I always wondered about it.
you didn't answer my question...would it not be offensive to someone for me to say that? is it worth saying it an offensive way to get your point across? isn't there a more tactful approach that could be used? for the record...my panties aren't in a wad. i don't wear panties.
If I remember correctly it had to do with the Gospel of Thomas - one of the many gospels (and other early Christian writings) that was not officially accepted by the Church. It is sometimes called a Gnostic gospel, which is misleading because there really was not a "Gnostic" movement or sect. Anyway, it had more to do with Jesus being within all things - people and nature...you did not need to go to a physical church (since Jesus could be found and a relationship formed with him anywhere), etc. So the idea was that the church sat on or coevered this up because it was not conducive for a church hierarchy...which is essentially true. The gospels that were accepted were the most appropriate to establish a political/religious machine that was the Catholic Church. Hope that helped...
read my first couple of posts here...including the article i posted...faith is faith...but it's not necessarily entirely blind.
isn't it also true that the rejected texts were less reliable than those that were put in as the Bible? i think it's important to share that so you don't create the picture that Bible is some conspiratorial document designed to keep down the masses.
