I wouldn't ever eat the popcorn at a movie theater regardless of health concerns because 1.) I've known people who worked at movie theaters, and they said NEVER eat the popcorn. 2.) its already too damn expensive.


Just have your wife sneak in a bunch of snacks in her huge purse.

 

i wonder if the same applies to microwave popcorn that is "movie style"

when I watched good eats on food network they said that popcorn is actually not bad at all (when compared to other snacks) if you make it yourself and just add a little salt for some seasoning. They did say only if its homemade and the store bought/movie popcorn is bad.

 

OK, so some people DON'T eat popcorn at movie theaters because they can't... so? I eat LOTS of it. It's not that bad for you. I see it being popped and popped and popped all day in the concession stand. It can't be that bad.

I worked at a movie theater and have no idea why people would tell you to not eat the popcorn (unless they are talking about the calories/fat). What the **** were they doing, jerking off in the butter sauce?

 

My guess is volume. It's deceptively large, and a person can really pack away a ton of popcorn without noticing.

For myself, I cannot finish a small popcorn at the Edwards theater even with my girlfriend's assistance. In addition, a medium drink seems like 46 oz or something. "Medium" is not a correct indicator at theaters -- "medium" is more like "extra large" there. And "large" is "how can someone eat/drink that much in 2 hours?", IMO.

 

They told me stories about not cleaning it out properly and using old oil.

Just kind of made me never want to eat popcorn at a movie theater ever again.

 

In highschool we would sneak in pizza or chinese food. These days I try to keep it healthier with a good trail mix but handmade chocolate truffles are also good. If you are going to go overboard it's probably better to at least get something yummy in.

 

If and when we buy the LARGE popcorn that requires its own Zip code, I have 2 Lil' Miss SwoLys and 1 Mrs. SwoLy help me out finish the popcorn. Also, if we decide to watch a second movie, we can refill it for $.50 at the Katy Tinseltown. We sometimes have just a bit left over.

You don't have to worry about "snacks" at the movie theatre if you go to Movie Tavern. You can just drink beer the entire movie.

If we do go to a regular theatre, I usually just gets me some junior mints and a diet coke. Then chomp on the ice for the rest of the movie.

It might be worse. I read something about the chemicals in that and what happens when it gets microwaved. I can't remember where I read that but I'll try to find it.
