i remember asking someone in a thread who just bought counting crows' new cd (i think its called hard candy) wether it was any good. well i just checked cdnow.com and its rated very high (best of genre). but there's like an advanced order for the cd with bonus tracks. and it costs twice the one on sale now. there's also another version which is an import with 2 bonus tracks. whats up with these bonus tracks? this is just like the smashing pumpkins greatest hits. isn't this like the dvd thing where a new version comes out a few weeks later? anyone knows the playlist for the more expensive disc? is it worth it to wait? adam duritz really need to call me up and straighten out this **** man. oh and please recommend one album (preferably something latest that i can get easily) from your collection that you really like. my favourite albums are by dave mathews band, natalie merchant, strokes, black crowes, counting crows.
Whatever you do, don't buy the new Chili Peppers (came out Tuesday). Ugh! Out July 16th... Morcheeba Dave Matthews can't wait!
New releases for me: -The White Stripes -The Hives -The Vines Latest releases with bonus tracks: -Weezer - Maladroit - Enhanced CD with short video/homemade movie clips
It's not really new, but you can get it from Amazon, but for some reason, you can't get it from CDNow.com & that is "1492: Conquest of Paradise (Soundtrack)" by Vangelis. This is an outstanding CD, IMO, especially if you have had a bad or stressful day. If you like Enigma and Delerium, you will love this CD. Personally, I think Vangelis is one of the greatest modern musical composers ever. A little bit more accessible and easier to find, but hardly new is "Led Zeppelin IV" by Led Zeppelin (of course). A classic CD to say the least.
Hey....i bought the new CD, Hard Candy. I love it, but of course i've been a fan since high school when "august" came out. Anyway, the best site to check with any questions about Counting Crows is "annabegins.com" The person running that site is also now partially in charge of the official site, she knows the band, and always does a great job of updating the site. The deal i've heard about the bonus tracks is this. Overseas, people have to pay out the butt for the releases, so the band tries to take advantage of the technology (more tracks per cd) AND reward those people who have to pay so much by putting some extra b-sides on them. There are unfortunately a variety of different releases with different b-sides, so it's hard to acquire all of them. I think the Japanese import has 3 b-sides on it, start again, you ain't going nowhere, and 4 white stallions. (all of the b-sides released for singles and imports for this album, thus far, are cover songs recorded in studio, by the way.) Also, the US version is enhanced, with the video for "american girls" on it, as well as a secret site with song by song explanation/ analysis by adam duritz on all of his tracks. I attempt to go on the CC message board once in a while, but there are some obsessive overdramatic FREAKS that take it over from time to time. Email me at: junglerules@hotmail.com if you have any questions......
Agreed, that's a great website! Still haven't made it to the store to pick up the new CD yet (shouldn't really be buying new mu$ic this summer anyway, but I'll make an exception for this one). Just curious - which one of the other three albums does it remind you the most of? Though my guess is it will be something all its own...
Hey...that is a tough question. The emotion that is pretty typical of a Crows album is there, but some of the songs are a little more upbeat musically. A lot of people are comparing the album to August, with a lot more production, a fuller sound. Some people even think the album is overproduced to a degree, and i'm not totally sure i agree, but i see their point. I would say musically it is closer to August and TDL. But that's tough to say because it truly is pretty darn unique. I would say pick it up, and you'll love the songs Up All Night, Richard Manuel, Holiday in Spain, etc. Plus, a GREAT cover of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi as a hidden track. Damn, i sound like i'm getting paid to sell the record I guess they are just my fave band, and I try to get them the props they deserve....
Hey, i can go off the handle myself sometimes, and i'm certainly not criticizing them for frequenting a message board, for *I* am frequenting a message board as I type this. However, i am simply saying that some people get bogged down in a) talking non-stop about Adam's hair, or how somehow the band sold out by being in a freaking commercial, or b) feel that the album or band is immune to any type of negative criticism, constructive or otherwise. I love going on the site and reading what others think of the music, but sometimes it strays from that....not surprising, but it can certainly be annoying. Maybe i could've been a little more obsessive when i was still in high school or whatever, who knows....but i guess as a young teen, and now as a young man, i never QUITE wanted to "have Adam's baby." ) (another standard CC message board staple.) Anyways, it's just weird to read about people who were introduced the band by anything other than mr. jones, or round here. Makes me feel a little old, really, thinking about how that album came out about 10 yrs ago!!! PS CC is going to be on good morning america right.....about.....now. (about 8:40 am or so, friday...)
