This American Life is a great, great podcast. Also Bill Simmons' BS report and Adam Carolla are pretty regular listens. NPR's Planet Money is good too.
Pugs and Kelly Frosty Heidi and Frank Uncensored. Used to listen to Adam Carrolla, but got burned out on him. I still give him a listen if its an interesting guest but thats about it.
Adam Carolla Podcast - Love the long form interview format. His rants do get old sometimes but he's really got good comedic wit and timing. Has a great cast of regular guests and I love the old stories about Adam's life before showbiz (living in North Hollywood, cleaning carpets etc.). Tony Kornheiser Show - I've been listening to his show since he was on espn radio. It's a nice mix of sports, chat and curmudgeonny grumbling. It's kind of like listening in around the water-cooler. Smodcast - Funniest show on this list. Love the chemistry between Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. And the fill-in hosts are usually awesome, (especially Smith's old friends from Jersey; Bryan Johnson and Walt Flanagan). It's like listening in on a couple of guys just sitting around and shooting the s***. Too bad the releases are so irregular throughout the year. Chud Show - It's another "guys sitting around and shooting the s***" podcast. This one focuses the talk on movies. Yet again the downfall is the irregular releases. Breaking Bad Official Podcast Behind the Cutting Edge: Breaking Bad Edition - during Breaking Bad season, I'll get so wrapped up in the show, I'll listen to the official podcast and the fancast. They're both really good. Official one is informative and the fan one is pretty fun and amusing. This American Life - I don't listen to this show all the time but when I'm caught up on the other shows, I'll listen to one of these eps. It's a great show, that's doing compelling stories on themes that you won't find anywhere else. Podcasts that I used to listen to: Old Loveline Eps - Loved the shows from when Adam and Dr Drew were doing it but the website hosting these eps was shut down a couple years ago. TVtimesThree - One of the few general tv-themed podcasts out there. I don't think the hosts are that interesting or funny so I don't listen to this show much anymore. I'll probably try it again if I get caught up on everything else. A Podcast of Ice and Fire - These guys were great with crazy off-the-wall humor combined with one of my favorite fantasy novels. But this show is on hiatus since the hosts have pretty much blown their wad and the show was getting a bit repetitive. Keith and the Girl - It's another daily chat show. Between Adam Carolla and Tony Kornheiser, I pretty much have this category covered, so I haven't listened to KATG in a while.
NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me is fun. This American Life is outstanding. Twit is hit and miss fun but with Kevin Rose Jason Callicanis, and Houston's own Dwight Silverman as frequent guests you get a unique view of the tech industry. Stuff You Should Know is good most of the time. PCper isn't great but if you're the type that wants to know how new stuff performed in benchmarks they do a lot of that. Latest had some interesting stuff about AMD's spinoff, Globalfoundries, AMD's Bobcat and Bulldozer etc. The Naked Scientist has interesting news, but maybe loses something in the translation. Too much theme music, and I find the musings of the hosts dull. I've recommended this one before and it doesn't get a whole lot of recognition, but the topics covered by the Brain Science podcast is as interesting as they come for me. Listening to experts talking about neuroplasticity and "hacking" your brain. Cool. Shame the format is so dry, but not everyone can be Charlie Rose and the host has a full time job as an ER doctor. ScienceTASTIC is awful. Full episodes of Real Time w/Bill Maher (audio), MSNBC Countdown, and Rachel Maddow are free(a/v). iTunes also has the poorly organized but outrageously valuable iTunes U. Thousands of college level courses at the click of a button, for free?
Love the CHUD show podcast. They were supposed to record another one this week, I thought, but I haven't seen anything about it yet. I guess it got pushed back again. Do you post over there on those message boards?
I subscribe to a ton of them, but my regular rotation is: mac break weekly windows weekly this week in tech smodcast (I love when Walter Flannagan guests) las vegas: five hundy by midnight anime world order (even though I don't watch anime) And a few drum & bass podcasts: Hospital Records Life Recordings Drum & Bass Arena Autonomic I'll check out some NPR, they just have so many it seems daunting trying to pick which ones to try out.
I love podcasts. I find I listen to more podcasts than I do music, especially at gym. Bill Simmons podcast NPR - It's All Politics Slate - The Political Gabfest (probably my favorite one out there -- the 3 Slate people are smart and funny without taking themselves too damn seriously) New Yorker - The Political Scene NBC - Meet the Press audio (yeah I'm a geek. -- listen to this Monday morning at gym, seems more efficient than watching tv on Sunday; who really wants to actually *see* David Gregory or Harry Reid? Audio's great for these kinds of things. ) Used to listen to Smodcast - agree that one's lots of fun. Just couldn't squeeze it into regular rotation (I only listen at gym each day.)
Never posted on Chud. I was recommended Chud by another movie podcast that I was listening to (which I ultimately dropped for being too dry and boring). I listened to the first episode which featured discussion on poltergeist bodily functions and giant crab monsters and I was hooked. I think the thing that drew me most in the beginning was that Nick and some of the other guys would come up with some very funny/clever puns, but eventually I started to enjoy the show more for the hosts' personalities and interactions.
I listen to the ones I work on obviously... I also listen to: Tuning into Sci-fi (a friend's cast) TWIT Skepticality Basketball Jones International Spy Museum cast Squint Squad (Bones) Galactica Quorum (I listen to them as I catch up on the episodes) I wish Clutch had one for the site here.. I would totally help work on it
