Recently they were set up at my school, back in May before the summer. I found some interest in this type of profesion for my future. I filled out a card to let them give me more info at their own expense. I thought nothing of it really. As close as 3 weeks ago, they gave me a call and the Sgt. gave me a questionaire over the phone. I passed the "test", and they wanted me to go in and talk over some stuff with them. 5 days later My mother and myself walked into this recruiting office with 3-4 Officers inside. We sat for over 3 hours talking, taking IQ tests, testing some of my physical strengths, getting lectured by those 4 guys about how good a thing being a Marine can be. I felt very inticed about what they could offer me. They asked me what I thought about the Marines so far (after the 2 hr. lecture/discussion), I gave it a 7 out of 10. We eventually left with a packet full of papers to look through about my future. I'm a senior this fall, I have some time. As we were walking out of the office, they invited me to take part in one of their weekly exercising/strength drills. I said i'd show up but eventually it turned out I couldn't wake up that Saturday morning at 6 am. A few days went by, and I was getting 4 maybe 5 calls a day from these guys. It went on for a good 10 days. I can see that there interested in me, but I still hadn't gotten back my ACT scores for college. I feel nervous about them hounding me like this because i'm still not sure if it's for me or not. I can see that there trying to help me, but I still don't know. I now, just got back from the gym and found out 45 minutes ago, the Sgt. for the Marines came by my house, looking for me. He left a card saying he and the other officers think that I can be an outstanding marine. Is this the normal type of treatment/recriuitment these guys give going after tons of dozens of individuals that are qualified or do they see something special in me, that can't seen to see in myself? Anybody ever been recruited by any type of United States Services or taken part in them?
I made it a point in high school to NEVER act interested around any of the Armed Foreces recruiters, even if I was, simply because I had heard stories about them hounding those that they think they could get to join. I don't know how typical your particular situation is, but they do have a reputation for vigorously pursuing their possible recruits.
Yeah, he's looking for a few good men. Seriously, this is going to continue. That's their modus operandi: attack attack. These guys have a quota to fill. The more recruits they get, the better chance for them of getting promotion later, etc etc. If you score well on aptitude tests, they'll be all over you like a bum on a baloney sandwich. Trust me. If you're a minority who scores well on their aptitude tests (not to separate Caucasians from the rest, but the recruiters do), they'll set up tents on your front and back lawn. They'll want you in one of their more difficult programs (whatever it may be). Trust me on this, too. The military can be good or bad, depending on the person who serves, so be careful...don't be afraid to say no (but they'll still call you). The recruiters know that for you, it's that time of life where you're asking yourself, School? Work? How do I pay for school? If I work, what job do I get? What to do what to do?
what got me with what you said ROXTXIA, is that I tok a pre Aptitude sort of test, 4 sheets long, took about 45 minutes, and I scored a 84. He said with that score in his many reports that i may get a 22 on my ACTs. Believe it or not, i got a Composite Score of a 22 on my ACT's. I'm half hispanic/half white (I look white) I hope I dont see no tent pickin' in my front yard. It didn't help when my mother talked about my family history. His father was in the navy. His father was in the mary. A few uncles were this, another aunt was that. I just want the hounding to stop. my mom finds it comicial that there doing this to me, btw.
I took the ASVAB . . . did well . . . They killed a forest hitting me with the pamphlets The Sgt in the Army became a bother. I like u had doubts. I eventually said HEY .. . I can try college. . if it doesn't work . . .the Military will not have gone anywhere. [the same could have been said for college . .. but easier to drop out of college after the second year than to break a 4 year commitment] Rocket River
If I see you write this one more time, you will be officially labeled as president of the Signature Police. UNMKT4, If you can make it to college, go to college. Get your degree and then become an Officer. You can do ROTC or OCS.
My brother in-law was a recruiter about 2.5 years ago. That was the worst couple of years for my sister. And, to show you how intense their job is to meet quota, last May they kicked him out for unethical practices in recruitment. The guy he got in screwed up badly and decided to take my brother in-law down too...to stay out of the military courts. Now don't get me wrong, he should've left that dude on the street, but the job is intense. In his defense I will say all he was trying to do for the kid was to give him a second chance in life. RR
