Mavericks free agent Wang Zhizhi will play for Golden State's team in the Los Angeles Summer League, which begins Monday, the Warriors confirmed.

The Warriors' team, to be announced Monday, also will include their first-round picks, Mike Dunleavy and Jiri Welsch. The team's first game is Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Wang Zhizhi averaged 5.6 points in 54 games last season for the Mavericks.
    (BRAD LOPER / DMN)
Mavericks coach-general manager Don Nelson said Wang would not play on the Mavericks' summer league team after the 7-1 center disobeyed two summonses to return to China for mandatory national team training. Nelson said he did not want to support Wang's action, which breaks the Mavericks' promise to China that Wang would return to his native country at end of the NBA season.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Wang's summer status will not affect his place with the Mavericks. Wang is a restricted free agent, and Cuban has said he will match any offer Wang receives up to the league average, which is about $4.5 million.

So i take it he landed there rather than with the mavs, mduke? Good catch for the warriors. Don't know if he has a spot anywhere on that team, but maybe he can give other teams a good long look at him. As much as i HATE OU, watching him beat up on my horns gave me a lot of respect for his game.

Well that's what I heard, but I could be wrong:confused: As much as I HATE UT, watching him beat up on Texas gave me a lot of respect for his game;)

    Hey what's up Frank,

I saw Wang play a few hours ago in Long Beach. He didn't have a real impressive game but neither did Dunleavy or Welsch. One play that stood out in my mind that involved Wang was when he had his shot blocked by 7'2" Soumalia Samake. He then come right back the next play and slapped the **** out of Samake's shot when he tried to take Wang to the hole. Shots that I have seen Wang drain in the NBA didn't seem to fall for him today. I could be wrong but I think he missed all his threes and I believe he ended up with like 4 or 6 points.

One thing about Wang I noticed was that dude needs to start getting into shape. No professional athlete should have that flabby of arms and he seemed sort of slugish. Dunleavy who I thought would look kinda soft was actually kind of muscular and much wider than he appeared on television. Although he(Dunleavy) didn't score much he played solid defense and had no problem banging down low with the other big men.

I saw the end of the Clipper-Mav game and I can see why they beat the Lakers yesterday. They are very talented and played much smoother together than either the Clippers,Lakers, or Warrior's rosters. Who is that #54 player? That guy is freaking HUGE!

I don't know what number he is but the Mavericks have got a guy named Thomas Hamilton that is playing with them. Don Nelson has tagged him as his secret center for this upcoming year. The guy is like 7 ' 2 and 350 lbs. He had like 13 points 18 rebounds and 8 assists last night. I haven't seen him play and I know it is only a summer league, but if he plays like this the Mavs might have found them a center.

hey, if Wang did not play well with 4-8 shooting and 13 points, then he should easily get over 20 if he played well

If the Mavs are relying on Two Sandwiches to play center, we aint got to worry about the Mavs this up coming season. I mean this guy makes Kelvin Cato look like the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain.
