Just to bring you up to speed, Alonzo Mourning, Grant Hill and Ray Allen have been named to Team USA for competition in the 2000 Summer Olympics. That is all. ------------------ Jen I'm bringing Shandon back to Utah....
Can someone explain: Gugliotta and Baker over Webber, or Smith over Kobe Is team selection beginning to favor thirty-something journeymen over 1st team all-stars (and the worthy ones at that)?
Heypartner, I agree with you on the first one, but calling Steve Smith a thirty-something journeyman is like calling Scottie Pippen a leader. It just doesn't make any sense. Kobe may have more flair and draw more 'oohs' and 'ahhs', but Smith most definately has game. I still believe he is among the best SG's in the game, and probably the classiest as well. So he may be a little slow on his feet, but his consistent shot, great height advantage, and gracefiul penetrations more than make uo for that. Azim, We are in the rarified air of the National Team here. My comments are relative to the company. These are all stars. But there are about 30 star soccer players in Brazil who don't make the National team.
Well I'm not surprised that Iverson isn't on that list. Yeah, hes a great player, but i don't know if he would represent America well.Same goes with Kobe. He's a good kid, but still young and lacks some maturity. At least not like a Steve Smith or Allan Houston, who are not only classy, but great players. I agree that Webber should be on that team. I think hes the best power forward in the game right now(Tim Duncan is a center, i don't care what his starting position is). But Baker and Gugliotta just seemed like a good choice at the time. Good luck Rudy! ------------------ Jen No your not....
heypartner, I hear ya. You just made my point for me. We're talking about the Dream Team here, do you honestly believe that having Steve Smith in there instead of Kobe is going to kill the U.S? Their all all-stars, and Smith might even be more suited to play the international game than Bryant is. Heck, this Dream Team is so deep you could start Jim McIlvaine in there for Duncan and they would still win by 30. Azim da Dream
