I don't see why we couldn't - go right ahead. Anyone else a fan of Lee "Scratch" Perry? Any of you guys have "War Ina Babylon" by Max Romeo or "Police and Thieves" by Junior Murvin? Also, same question for "Heart of the Congos" by The Congos and "Party Time" by The Heptones?
seconded! the master of the melodica! my favorite jamaican artist. and gregory issacs is good for the sexy time!
You can buy my reggae CD at the only walmart in Jamaica where Ziggy got me a gig entertaining customers. (I know, not a serious reply but the building was the first thing I thought of.)
Based on what you've said your taste are try Bunny Wailer dubdisco and any of Burning Spear's Living Dub series
Marley Peter Tosh Black Uhuru Jimmy Cliff Sly and Robbie Junior Kelly Aswad Toots and the Maytals Third World
Not exactly Reggae but the remix album called Echo Dek is more dub, a reworking of Vanshing Point by Primal Scream is essential!! But I would guess Manny, you already got that one??
I love Jamaican music and always find myself returning to it. If you like Bob Marley Check out this Collection. It's when they were simply "The Wailers" and just beginning. There is a gospel vibe to some of it and even a great cover of "Rolling Stone". There is a bootleg that I think every Bob Marley Fan should hear, if they haven't. Bob Marley and the Wailers 12/02/73 The Record Plant - Sausalito, CA 1.. Intro 2.. Rastaman Chant 3.. Bend Down Low 4.. Slave Driver 5.. You Can't Blame The Youth 6.. Stop That Train 7.. Burnin' & Lootin' 8.. Kinky Reggae 9.. Get Up Stand Up 10. Lively Up Yourself 11. Walk The Proud Land 12. Outtro Total Time: 52 minutes I think it is pretty easy to find. It is a recording for a radio piece that is studio quality and captures The Wailers at their absolute best. Hands down the best Bob Marley I own. If you are interested in older Jamaican music - I would give a listen to the box set "Tougher Than Tough" It contains a good overview and incredible music. The Trojan Collections for the most part are good, but tend to be multiple crap tracks packaged with one or two gems. A lot of the acts already mentioned are great, I would also encourage that you see the film "Harder They Come" if you haven't. I would add Desmond Dekker, The Paragons, Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Hopeton Lewis, and if you want the Yin to the Yang of "Scratch" Perry - look at Dodd's Studio One collections.
Sadly, I do not. It along with Sonic Flower Groove and Beautiful Future are the only things by the Scream I do not have. But on another note, I just finished listening all the way through for the first time, "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating Into Space". Pretty solid stuff - unfortunately I could not listen to it too loud as there have been some complaints about my music being too loud at work. Yet, I'll find some way to listen to this album in all of its sonic glory.
Not exactly easy listening is it? J. Spaceman has just completed performing it start to finish is the UK, it's up on Dime a dozen and not a bad recording either. I recall seeing the on the Pure Phase tour at the old Urban Art bar here and them opening up w/Cop Shoot Cop, talk about having yer mind blow!!! "Hey man there's a whole in my arm where all the money goes"!!
Brought this thread back as I finally bought some more reggae (all I have so far before buying these albums were Legend by Marley and 2 Scratch Perry/Upsetter albums in Super Ape and Return of the Super Ape). I got 4 albums produced by Scratch Perry during, arguably, his greatest period (the mid '70s) with War Ina Babylon by Max Romeo, Police and Thieves by Junior Murvin, The Heart of the Congos by The Congos, and Party Time by The Heptones. Anyone into stuff by Scientist, Mad Professor, King Tubby, and/or Prince Jammy?? Anyone listen to the album, "Best Dressed Chicken in Town"? Any Horace Andy fans out there?

I recommend Matisyahu, I've been listening to them lately and I've been amazed. Such a peaceful and emotional way of art, I recommend it again
Manny, check out Nuttea if you can find any of their music. It is a french Reggae group and its decent stuff.
Junior Murvin's "Police and Thieves" is on the "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" Soundtrack, which is fantastic.
