Anyway... Morey posts about a couple hours after the game and already seems to have all his stats. For example he says Brooks took 19 great shots, but AB took 22 total shots. So either he or someone is is deciding and recording which shots are great, and I'm sure a bunch more statistics during the game. AB had 4 assists but according to Morey set up 14 great shots. Kyle Lowry had 3 great shots out of the 4 he took, and set up 17 great shots even though he only had 8 assists.
I am thinking "great shots" are shots set up within the offense and generally pretty open. What the shooter does with the shot after its created has no effect on if the PG did a good job of setting up the shot.
Correct. "Great shot" means high percentage shot. It does not have to go in. Taking great shots or setting up great shots means you are playing the game the right way.
It's so funny that people still want to measure Ariza by his jump shooting. I promise you, every game Ariza has a hot shooting night Morey sees it at as icing on the cake.
I think if he did more catch and shoot and not quite as often folks wouldnt say anything. He takes quite a few shots and leads the team in FGA.
Yeah, enjoying a win is an ability. It's a freaking skill. I couldn't agree more. A lot posters here need to work on it.
That makes a lot of sense to me now. If a player passes to an open man and he misses the open shot then he shouldn't be penalized by not getting a kudos like an assist. If you track a player by how many times he can help set up the other guy for an open shot then you get a better picture of his individual decision making skills.
Sometimes he has to, that's what a shooting guard does...unfortunately he isn't a shooting guard. If we had another guard out there with him everything would balance out. Sure, he isn't a great ball handler but Shane Battier makes him look like Chris Paul so sometimes Ariza has to force the issue. He doesn't want to be the shooter. He wanted a bigger role, as in being one of the offensive options and a guaranteed starter.
His latest tweet regarding the game VS. Phoenix. Man, Morey must hate the 140 character limit twitter has; his tweets are getting tough to read. We should beat Phoenix at home. Offense: no push, no attack. Defense: The Suns got into what they wanted. Game plan errors killed us.
That sounds like he's pretty frustrated with the loss. I think he felt the Rockets had a good shot of beating the Suns. I'm curious if, by that last sentence, he means the game plan wasn't good, or the players didn't follow it well.
I hope it's that the players made errors following the game plan... criticizing the game plan itself would be a bad idea, imho. There were a lot of defensive breakdowns in the second half.
I couldn't watch the game, but Kevin Arnowitz writes about a blown rotation late which led to a Frye 3-pointer. Maybe that's what Morey is referring to.
Yes, but this... is likely. There was a couple of rotations in the 4th where they got the ball right underneath the basket. The rotation broke down on the weak side. Plus the game plan seemed to call for the off big man defender to collapse inside, but Scola and Landry were going too deep off of Frye or Admunson or that other one.. Collins? Then on the p&r they were getting screened, leaving an open shooter at the top of the key or behind the 3 point line. There is no doubt in my mind Morey thought we could beat this team. Heck, I know we can beat this team. If not for some questionable calls killing our momentum we would have beat the Suns.
I agree... and was kind of suprised that Morey would even risk sounding like he's questioning the coaches' game plan. But then again, this is talking about how he is now on twitter's "anal" directory. Hazards of word limit. Yeah, there were a few blown rotations and general stupid crap (like Landry's loose ball foul on Nash, which was almost as stupid and certainly more damaging than Yao Ming's midcourt foul on Billups last season). Kind of interesting that Morey thought the Rockets "should" beat the Suns at home. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but I think this shows what Morey thinks of the talent level of this team. Particularly, a team that "should" beat a very good Suns team (9-2 heading into last night) at home is a very good (playoff caliber)team itself.
any tweets on maritial problems from morey? i forgot what quarter it was, but it was when they were doing the interview with the new astros manager. his wife looked PISSED and so did darryl. He was texting and she was leaning on the opposite armrest. Some kind of IKE and TINA moment.

For someone who writes/studies comedy writing, I've noticed from his tweets/interviews he's rather pretty quick and witty! A GM with smarts AND personality
