David Wesley was very useful for a season (arguably his second season, too, but what's he gonna do to help the team without Yao/TMac). Bob Sura was decent for a year, too, before his career ended with injury. In any case, I am guessing that the Rockets' history with old guys, particularly those signed (or traded for) on the cheap, are not any worse than that of other teams. Guys lose a step and become more injury prone when the miles add up. This inherent risk is why you get to sign them for cheap. Think of them as 2nd round draft picks... Rockets bought a bunch of them, each for a relatively modest price, some turned out to be Budinger and Landry, others end up being Joey Dorsey. It's the cost of doing business as a bottom feeder.
I bet those are Artest's same feelings. Thats why it seems to me at least, why he looks and sounds resentful towards Ariza. EVERYONE wrote us off. and yeah its early in the season, but now people are at least recognizing just how much heart this team has.
Keep in mind, though, that when a team signs ANY player (regardless of level of NBA experience) to a minimum salary contract, the same dollar amount counts against total team salary for purposes of determining luxury tax. Therefore, signing Stackhouse for the minimum would have no more bearing on the Rockets' luxury tax bill than if they signed some rookie free agent.
So what, he's a bum... Wouldn't you rather have a yung group of guys who can grow together, rather than an old has been who will only kill the chemistry when he is gone
That's true, but I don't think they are looking to sign either Stackhouse or a rookie FA right now. It appears they are content to sit on the 14 guys on the roster right now and not sign a 15th player unless an injury happens (particularly if it's injury to Brooks or Lowry) or if they are able to make a trade.
It's not happening guys. He missed his chance. We moved on. Budinger is filling that void we thought Stackhouse would help us with...
we've got the rookie in budinger now. glad it didn't happen. waiting in atlanta? well, the hawks are 9-2 right now.
