    As Shooter Jennings says:

Let's put the "o" back in "country".

Zac Brown Band and Billy Currington

I also recently just got into country, and this is coming from a person who only listens to Top40 and House music.

alan jackson sucks! that aint country!

taylor swift is a pop-tart, but she is foxy.

george strait is the last of the real country singers - modern country music is just corporate, plastic pop w/ fake country accents and a pedal steel thrown in.

nobody today can hold a candle to these...

My band shared a bill with Robert Earl Keen this weekend. Holy CRAP, those boys can PLAY. Most of their songs were pretty laid back, but they ended with a double-time 10-minute jam and all took extended solos. They put on a great show and are really nice guys.

Anyway, this is my all time favorite country song:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TMUn4T-GQKk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TMUn4T-GQKk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Is there a more catchy riff than that? I think not. I actually really like Dwight Yoakum.

How do you figure that Alan Jackson isn't country? He's one of the only mainstream country artist that still puts out real country music.

Dwight's coming to the Arena theater next week.

Country music is like rock .. diversified. Some of it rocks, some is manufactured tripe.

Basically, if it's from Nashville it sucks. If it's from West Texas, Bakersfield, Austin or Memphis or Muscle Shoals it's probably pretty good.

I grew up with Hayes. He's from The Woodlands. He's also one of the great new Texas musicians.

I rarely listen to any music at all anymore, but I will admit that "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy" is a catchy song.

Listen to this man. His selections are sound, but special emphasis should be placed above on the man in, ahem, black.

In college pretty much everyone should go through a Johnny Cash phase. An absolute music, country or otherwise, legend.

    His stuff goes from apocalyptic/Biblical:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DhtcaRRngcw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DhtcaRRngcw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gRlj5vjp3Ko&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gRlj5vjp3Ko&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

to unrepentant rebel/misogynist bad--- (minor language on these):

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IeOPhh_DgPA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IeOPhh_DgPA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ITsvPjbEPtc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ITsvPjbEPtc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    to devoted family man/husband:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/k7K4jH7NqUw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/k7K4jH7NqUw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

He also hung out/performed with Bob Dylan, and was hip enough to cover Nine Inch Nails in his last years:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/o22eIJDtKho&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/o22eIJDtKho&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Even in death, that man gets laid more often than I do. As it should be; as it should be.

Nice! I can honestly say I like every song I've heard by him. Pretty good actor too. Loved him in Slingblade.

Too "bad" I have Rocket's tickets that night.

Brad Paisley is hands down the best modern country artist. His guitar skills are incredible and his lyrics can be quite witty.

Right on man! Hank III is a great artist, he still plays real country music, not this pop country crap they play on the airwaves now days. I've seen him live 6 times, and they were some of the best shows I've ever been too. He plays a 2 hour set, half country, and half metal. Good times.
