that actually makes sense too, i believe h was injured before, so if he's healthy now maybe they want to give him another look...
That's why it sounds suspisous. Do you honestly believe at this stage of the season, any NBA team would add a no name undersized player without knowing anyhing of their play book? Since he's not likely to play for any NBA team, not likely to want to go oversea as you pointed out, the cut to him is not "on good terms".
the front office is now preempting keith jones' anticipated ****ups by clearing roster space in order to pickup replacement bodies
I got a big chuckle out of this one. Boozer, I could deal with. Okur...I would weep nightly by my big stack of Conrad Hilton and Zig Ziglar comic books. Nice one Shaud.
I wouldn't look too much into this, Morey has been known to always have some roster flexibility. I highly doubt there is a trade on the horizon but maybe Morey already has his eye on a few possible free agents.
once again, brooks was injured...we only have TWO point guards, yet we have DA, Cook, dorsey, Chuck, scola, landry, and pops, to cover 2 spots. That's seven players. How could we possibly need bigs more? What you mean is we need more talent or we need more size at the bigs position. Stockpiling players doesnt automatically add talent or height. You can have 10 centers and still suck at that spot. Pops didnt have more height than anyone else and was only clearly better than dorsey and cook, both who are more valuable to houston right now than pops (cook for contract and dorsey for big man potential).
how is that not good terms?? They don't just send him a text saying "hey your fired"....i'm sure thye spoke with him as to why they made the move, pops is in no position to complain because they made the move when he's not a vet or has secured a spot. Those guys know a cut may come at any time during the season. Just because a job doesnt work out doesnt mean you automatically leave in bad terms, unless one side acts like an ass, and i don't see the rockets or pops acting like one.
the likeliest explanation: adelman has figured out now that his big men rotation is set and that pops won't be part of it unless there are major injuries. so, with that decision being made the rockets waived pops (and sent dorsey to the d-league) right now in order to save the most money and do pops a favor by giving him the chance to find a new team as early in the season as possible. plus, if all sources agree that there's no trade imminent it's probably the truth.
Thats the thing, Pops had talent. He brought athleticism and size to the center position, exactly what he has or would be playing while on the court. Chuck Hayes and David Andersen are our 2 "bigs" getting PT so far. Not much talent, but 1 has a ton of hustle and heart and the other brings a great amount of offense. Why would we cut someone just cause Brooks was injured? We could have Chase become a way better Luther Head the way he used to bring the ball up the court, instead of cutting another big of ours. Just doesn't make much sense to me, unless McCants is now known for his fantastic ball handling, and that is very doubtful.
No we don't. Pops is not the "big" we need. We need REAL big bodies who can clog up the middle on defense and get rebounds. Pops is not adding a whole lot to our front court depth. We do have a lot of SGs, but not PGs. Unless Chase can play some minutes there. We will be left with no backup PG in case either Brooks or Lowry gets hurt. Even before they made the last cut, I was expecting them to cut Pops rather than Conroy for this exact reason. I guess Pops played better in the preseason than Conroy which earned him the roster spot. But now it is increasingly clear that Hayes-Scola-Landry-Andersen can hold down the fort there. If any of them gets injured, the other three would still be fine. That said, the timing does seem strange, with both Dorsey and Pops gone on the same day. Looks like some moves are going to happen.
Now we are arguing about the definition of good term more that what's behind the move. But anyway, if it''s not what Pops wanted, Rockets are not doing him a favor as you claimed. The whole situation still doesn't sound right by the twitter explanation. It only makes sense if a guard is signed or called today,a trade happens today, or somebody can prove that Pops contract will become guarunteed if he's not cut today.
To be honest if a "significant" trade is not coming then this isn't to big of a deal BUT the more I think about it the more I am getting a bit concerned about Brooks because if this is truly for more depth behind Lowry, is Brooks more hurt then we are being lead to believe? Was this the idea and they wanted to see how things would play out with all the "Bigs" or did Brooks hurt himself enough for them think an insurance policy would be needed.
True, we need a big. He is a "big" like Chuck, not somebody that brings size to the center position. However, Pops is only an 1" taller and 10-15 lbs heavier than our guard/forwards Battier/Ariza/McGrady.
Pops doesnt have size. Chase isn't a PG. Mccants is probably a better pg at handling the ball than chase.
