Can someone please explain why a team would waive (or announce the waiving of) a player before a trade is announced to accommodate a trade?

If there's a trade it means the Rockets are getting one more player than they are sending out. A team cannot make a trade if it puts them over the 15 man roster limit. Player/s need to be waived first in such a scenario.
This is exciting but scary at the same time... don't want to lose some of the good guys! Hope Morey cuts the fat off (Mac).
sorry, to clarify. i recall usually seeing the announcements waiving the extra player with the trade announcement. so it coming prior is not something i recall.
Morey on Twitter said it was just to open up roster flexiblity incase of injury or call ups from the Vipers??? Interesting...Morey with his evil genius jedi mind tricks again...
A shame, I had grown to like him a little. Obviously, Morey must have something in the works but unless it gets Cook off our hands I probably won't be happy in the least.
