Black professor sucker punches white woman in face over debate about race

I think it is obvious that thinking racism towards white people is better is a terriblly stupid and ignorant statement, I don't feel the need to defend that.

 

That isn't accurate. Blacks are still pulled over because of their race, they are still followed around stores because of their race etc. They are still passed over for jobs sentenced unequally etc.

These are still real problems that one part of our society faces and whites don't face.

My view is that all racism is bad, racism by a group that holds power against a group that doesn't is worse.

What I said isn't based on race, it's based on the facts on the ground.

I agreed with you regarding this case, because a professor is in a posirtion of power.

 

I'm presuming the laws are different state by state but my understanding is that public intoxication requires intoxication. I don't recall whether that issue was raised at all with Dr. Gates or whether he smelled of alcohal.

I will agree with you though that cops often give the disorderly conduct as an excuse to take someone in. I know someone who was arrested under that and they dropped the charges. FYI this person was white and not a famous professor either. Again it is a subjective standard but one that isn't always enforceable. Anyway if mouthing off is the standard then a cop could arrest someone complaining about getting a parking ticket if they were only parked for a minute or any such other gripes that people make towards cops.

If you don't understand the history of our nation or continued racial inequalitry then it is you who is ignorant. If you do understand that to even a very basic level then please explain why racism towards whites is just as bad?

There is zero danger of whites serving longer jail sentences for the same crimes, or not getting promotions, jobs, etc

You should art least admit that there are very different possible consequences.

Whites are in no danger of oppression or losing out as a whole because of discrimination

 

It was started for the same reason any other thread in the D + D is started to stimulate conversation and debate which it has done. If you take out your page and a half of oblivious post and the first 6 and half pages of mocking and calling the 2 conservatives in here names, there is about 9 pages of good discussion and debate going on. The subject is something you are not comfortable discussing, so you have contributed nothing and pretend it is not happenning. This has not stopped you from repeatedly posting in the thread, though. What you are doing is trying to deflect from the real conversation without success.

No, racism is bad for anyone. Racism towards black people is no more important than racism towards black people. Racism is racism. You fail to realize the flip side. Black people also get jobs simply for being black. They get into better schools because they are black, etc.

Are blacks being oppressed? Because last time I checked, they were not. This is 2009 buddy, get over it.

 

I get the feeling almost these exact same words were said in the argument that led to the professor punching the woman.

 

I agree with Franchise on this, I think he is just wording it wrong. Racism by whites against blacks isn't worse than racism by blacks against whites, but the consequences are often graver.

This is akin to violence by men against women vs violence by women against men.

A man hits a woman the damage is going to generally be more severe than if a woman hits a man.

Generally speaking, white racists are in a position to do more damage than black racists because whites are generally going to be the ones in power.

He happens to be black so it is racist?

I'm not gonna watch the video right now cause I am in class, but I am assuming that is the case.

Anyway, some of you completely ignore how racists blacks can be towards white. In my experience, Black people treat white people much worse than white people treat them.

Although in this case, we have a black professor in a position of power smacking a white woman. Minorities increasingly hold positions of power, and I certainly hope they don't think it's ok to be racist or try to get away wtih it.

I wonder the professor ever fails white students for have a conservative point of view? Same question applies to Gates. Maybe Gates reads a paper, thinks "racial profiling!" and fails the student.

Universities are supposed to be places of higher learning. I would hope that open discussion is encouraged on all topics. Though it would be funny if a professor bumrushed a student in the middle of classed and punched him/her in the face for saying something he disagreed with.
