The guy just started college in New Mexico. Eighteen years old! Last week my co-worker was telling me about how his brother had a cough and sore throat on Thursday. Then, on Monday he called in to say he was at the hospital with his brother because his condition worsen and diagnosed with H1N1. They had stabalized him on Monday and his vitals seem to get marginally better yesterday. Well, he texted me while i was at the Rockets game that his brother passed away. Man, my heart sunk. I don't know when he'll be back to work and don't even know what to say to him. Just a reminder that life is fleeting. I never realized how serious this thing is.
Yeah, most of the people who are dying from it have other complications though. I had a different strain of flu thankfully, but two of my cousins had H1N1 and took antibiotics and were fine within a week. Very sad for your coworker... so sudden. So many of the ones getting that strain are college aged. It's very hard to lose someone so young.
It did for them. They both got sick on Saturday... started the medicine on Monday (after a trip to the doc) and by the Sunday they were both fine.
I would assume they took an antiviral like Tamiflu or Relenza and not an antibiotic which shouldn't work for the flu. The lesson is that if you start feeling sick with flu symptoms, don't wait until you are extremely sick to tell your Dr. and get medicine that could potentially save your life.
the brother did have other medical conditions while growing up. he was literally in and out of the hospital every year in high school except his senior year. he hadn't had any complications for about a year and half so they thought he was finally over it. i don't know if the preexisting conditions contributed to his deterioration but he wasn't exactly the "healthiest" teenager.
that's terrible macalu. H1N1 is hitting those with weakened immune systems and it's sad to hear the story of your coworker's brother +
I looked up the symptoms, and I have: unusual tiredness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath or cough, loss of appetite, aching muscles, It feels like I have a fever, but I don't. Sometimes my testicles really hurt. No it's not blue balls. I'm only 21 and I'm going to get an STD pee test for the first time next week. I know something is wrong with me, but the doctor said I'm fine. I've never had a headache before in my life. All of a sudden I get one every day for almost a year?
I assume he had some other unknown condition, either way thats pretty sad. I had swine (doctor didnt confirm it until 7 days after I got tested), but was fine a couple days later. I was very tired in the afternoons for about 2 weeks.
Thousand of people die each year from the regular flu; it is just never reported. The swine flu is no more potent than the regular flu. It is just unusual that it targets teens and younger adults where as the regular flu is \ geared towards children and the older folks.
A little girl from my daughter's school died a few weeks ago from it and that scared the hell out of us. A bunch of kids at the school ended up being out for a week after that, but everything has been okay since. I just feel so horrible for that little girl's family.
It doesn't really target them as much as the mortality rates seem to be higher in the otherwise safter age groups.
this is what i keep hearing from adults who get it. that most of their symptoms clear up in a week...but that you feel like crap for 2-3 weeks after. i'm planning on getting the vaccination if i can find it. really not interested in feeling like crap for 2-3 weeks. just heard today that the CDC, which had previously said we had about 1,000 swine flu deaths so far, now says we have 4,000.
Dude I'm going to sound crazy but you sound like a pretty classic example of Labile or Immotile Cillia Syndrome!!! I go to Baylor College of Medicine here in Houston and we barely finished covering this like 2 weeks ago. Now, I'm not guaranteeing that this is what you have but a low grade chronic headache, chronic respiratory infection, high incidence of salivary gland infections, middle ear infections AND...drumroll...chronic low grade testicular ache! If it is the case, there is some serious information you need to know about that probably should not be discussed through the bbs, PM me BTW, You better not be kidding or i'm going to make a quick turn from feeling like a badass to feeling like a real idiot!!!
