They don't really make that much off of advertising before films. I hate to tell you, too, that the situation is going to get worse. I know Philip Anschutz is poised to start putting more advertising in his chain of theaters. I'm sure the rest of the industry will follow.
Some places (certain french cafes maybe) have devices that block all cell phone signals. No signals = no incoming calls. Problem solved.
Doesnt the UH pool hall thingy have the cell phone blocker? Dizzy, kooch is something you put in your living room and sit on to watch TV.
The commercials don't bother me as much as the rude dipsh!ts. I like previews. But cell phone idiots and people that talk through movies or kick seats constantly should be rounded up and shot after the movie. I'd stay after the credits for that. I say something every now and then, but I tend to shy away from it because I sometimes feel like I'm the only person bothered by it. If its as annoying to so many people as it is to me, how come I don't see more people rising up and laying down the law when it happens?
I have a few things to say. First of all, stop all of you confusion and go to a matinee around 12 noon. I went to see MIB II yesterday at a brand new nice theater built here in downtown ABQ and I saw 12 people inside the 500 seat theater. To avoid altercations, avoid people in general. Thats the Botton line.
Do you guys get tired of watching the commercial for "A Foundation for a Better Life" or something like that? WTF? Who are they? I'm too lazy to look them up.
I get irritated at the constant barrage of stuff you're subjected to before the movie. Used to, you could get to a movie early and at least have a few minutes to talk or just hang out and relax (or actually get to know your date) before the trailers started. I don't mind trailers. What I do mind is the constant stream of movie trailers interspersed with commercials, on a giant screen, even way before the movie is scheduled to begin. Somehow, no matter how badly you want to look away, your attention is sucked into it. Your conversation, if any, is about the stuff on the screen, which you're sick of because you've seen it so many times before.
The damn price is the worst part. At Edwards it's up to $7.75 for an adult ticket so what i usually do is go to the credit card machine and buy a childs ticket for an R movie (i can't believe they actually let you do that) and the ticket checker never catches it.
Theatres need to just block cell phone signals. I have a cell phone and ussually check it atleast three times before the movie because Iahte when they go off. People are just rude. I think the guard thing would ruin the movie experience more than rude people. I prefer midnight shows because it takes the baby element out usually, but they don't show good movies that late anymore in Austin. Matinees are also a good way to miss large crowds, but it doesn't take many teens/babies/kids to ruin a movie.
I Guess i'm one of those people who in Movie theatres believes in the "Lynch Mob Justice" As annoyed as I have been recently with all the damn commercials, I love previews, but with all the advertising they need to lower ticket prices. What Irks me to no end are 1.) Babies Crying: EVER HEARD OF A BABY SITTER???? 2.) Punk kids: I've told a group of kids - teens to shut the hell up a few times. 3.) Cell Phones and Laser Pointers: I've noticed lately there's always some idiot who thinks its funny to shoot a red laser pointer at the screen. A bunch of people started yelling about kicking whoever's ass it was, and well I'll be....it stopped. If people are on phones, you have to yell at them, don't wait for the Movie people, some bs about a device to make our phones vibrate or security. Start yelling at the person and others will follow. Works like a charm....
well said. i am in 100% agreeement! for the love of god, someone show him the "favorite veggie" thread!
