Does anybody know how long the Astros have Lance Berkman signed for? I think we signed him to a 6 year extension, but I'm not sure.

Lance Berkman signed a 3-year contract after the 2001 season for $10.5 million dollars. Berkman will earn $0.5 million in 2002, $3.5 million in 2003, and $6.5 million in 2004.

    Got that from www.astrosdaily.com .

We got him for a huge bargain price.

yeah, but you gotta figure the Astros didn't want another Hidalgo situation, where they shell out the big bucks for what "looks" like a sure thing.

But, I guess Hidalgo's 2000 year was too damn good to not think big things from him. Berkman's 2001 season was great, but he did show a decline in the second half.

He'll put up these type of numbers now for the first three years, and then once he gets paid loads, he'll continue to do it, because then the pressure for him to "break through" will be gone.

Unlike, mr. richard....who probably succumbed to the pressure of a big deal.

Depends. He's also under club control for those three years anyway, so we could have forced him to play for $400,000 a year as well. His only other option would have been to quit baseball. I think this was a kind of goodwill gesture on the part of the Astros in the hopes that he'll sign for a bit of a discount in 3 years.
