I hope these CBO numbers aren't incorrect estimations. Being wrong about the Democratic plan reducing the deficit would be a horrible mistake, and things like these articles worry me:

    http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/article/368426/China's-Premier-Warns-Obama-to-Get-America's-Deficit-to-an-%22Appropriate-Size%22
    http://www.tradingstocks.net/html/death_of_the_us_dollar.html

I'm also less exciting about the stock market's numbers because it looks inverse to the rise/fall of the dollar (dollar goes up, stocks go down and vice versa).

    I'm no economist, though!

Question...what about allowing people and businesses to cross state lines to shop for healthcare do democrats not like? Its seems like a no-brainer to create more compitition.

Because the economics of health insurance don't work the same way as selling some other product or commodity - what is very likely too happen is that insurers would underwrite more low risk coverage across state lines, ditch the higher risk coverage, and the cost for hi risk people would go even higher.

wouldn't you eliminate or reduce that risk if you combined it with not allowing them to reject preexisting condintions.

Isn't the issue also that this component would place the regulatory role at the state level, leading insurance companies to all incorporate in the state with the weakest regulations, like credit card companies do now?

Don't Copy Europe's Mistakes: Less Government Is the Right Way to Fix Healthcare

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RZum_o-GAEI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RZum_o-GAEI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Eline van den Broek explains that government interference is driving up healthcare costs in America and warns that European style health "reform" will make the situation even worse. Based on what has happened in Europe, she explains that universal health coverage is not the same as universal healthcare, that insurance mandates mean more government control, and that price controls simply do not work.

agree with everyone on this thread about less government is better. We already have the govt in our faces everyday and everywhere. What people need to learn and gain back in this country is personal responsibility and stop depending on the Govt to give hand outs. The govt has nothing to offer or give so the only way they can give what they dont have is to take from someone else. The hard working Americans are what made this country so great and the worlds super power. Unfortunately we are heading down a road of socialism. Health care is a sensitive topic for all since there are people who do suffer with no health care. But socialize health care is not the answer. It has been done before by other countries and it has never worked. I really hope the bill really is dead on arrival when it reaches the senate. Our house of reps have clearly lost their minds. I dont understand how a woman (being nice calling her that) like Pelosi can be in power. She is way too extreme and liberal. Go 2010 elections! Let's person some sane reasonable conservatives back in power!

Yes. All your fruitless phone calls questioning why you were denied coverage for a severed leg because of the pre-existing athlete's foot you had in college would go to Delaware or South Dakota.

1.The US has the most expensive healthcare system in the world. It is almost twice as expensive as every other developed nation. This is largely due to administrative costs which account for 19-25% of healthcare costs, and up to 34% at for-profit hospitals.

2.Other than South Africa, America is the only developed country in the world that does not provide healthcare for all of its citizens.

3.Yet, the US ranks 26th in infant mortality and 24th in the number of healthy years a person can expect to live - putting America’s healthcare system in the company of Cuba and Slovenia rather than Canada and Western European nations.

4.And, despite ludicrous right-wing anecdotal claims of high dissatisfaction among those who live in countries with universal healthcare, the reality is that, with the exception of Italy, Americans are more dissatisfied with their healthcare than are the citizens of every other developed nation, including England, France, Germany, and Canada. Moreover, US doctors spend less time with patients that do doctors in other nations.

So you are against Obama trying to cut costs of private insurance? Becuase private insurance is EVIL.

I don't even know why liberals use the word insurance. That's not what they want. They will only be satisfied with a complete government healthcare takeover.

if you are suggesting I supported the previous white house administration you are dead wrong. Bush was not a conservative by any means. He grew the govt much like the liberals are doing so today. Except Obama and this congress is surpassing the spending of the Bush adminsitration by leaps and bounds. We really need to throw out all our leaders and start fresh. I mean the current congress and white house are just a bunch of loonies who are going to drive this country into the ground.
