It is funny that there is this group of conservatives who bleat about democracy yet who who oppose civil rights loudly and also like to invade countries to overthrow elected leaders if they don't like the results.

 

Already regulated. I'm talking about things that are currently controlled by criminal organizations because no reasonable regulations exist.

My myers-briggs personality type is shared by dictators and some weaker characters have suggested that I am a control freak. But I can assure you that given the opportunity I would be a very benevolent dictator and provide ample opportunity for the people to have a voice about those subjects they are uniquely qualified for as experts such as who should be the next American Idol. I would probably provide universal health care and five weeks vacation.

 

Allowing folks to govern themselves only works well if you have a uniformly well-educated populace. As we don't have that here in the U.S., I'd humbly accept the mantle of benevolent dictator. Mailed fist in velvet glove and all that.

There's probably a good 150 - 200 years worth of American exploitation of Latin/Carribbean countries; short-term economic suicide notwithstanding, they can take all the damn hotels they want.

 

Some countries need a dictator, poor ones especially. Countries where people refuse to work and are protected by some crappy government rules, with a dictatorship you can put those scrubs to work.

 

I'm not a guy who cares for power personally. But if for some reason I do get in a position of total power, then HELL YES I'd be a dictator.

I don't know why people think dictators are bad. If a country needs change, there's no better form of government to make it happen than dictatorship. It sucks as a long term form of government because of what eventually happens to all dictators. But usually at the beginning things are pretty good.
