We had three kids in a 6 year span and I can say in complete honesty that I did not sleep uninterrupted through the night for 8 consectutive years. Not once.
Good lord, that's insane! I guess we were lucky. They slept pretty well, most nights, when they were young. Now one is off to university, out of state, and the other is in her last year of middle school. I'd trade a little of that sleep for some of the bread the out of state school is costing.
as a father of a 11yo and a 6yo ... here's an old but famous quote... We spend the first twelve months of our children's lives teaching them to walk and talk and the next twelve telling them to sit down and shut up. ...
At 4mo my daughter "army crawled" (just arms pulling along). She did that for quite awhile before making her legs part of the equation. At 5mo she crawled, but was slow getting from place to place. Now, she can be in another room if you turn your head for a sec. My son was well behind that. 7mo or a little later. He rolled from place to place to get around and then within a two week span got up and started wandering from furniture piece to furniture piece.
My son turns ONE tomorrow (11/10/2009). It's been a wild ride, for sure. Totally awesome. He started to crawl around 5 months. He just started walking full-time a few weeks ago. He's also become quite the vocal sumbitch.
If it weren't for all of the pictures we took, I would not have the foggiest idea. I don't think I had a full night sleep until after he was 9 months old.
Son just turned 10 last week. Daughter is about to be 8. So, I guess my first years were good ones. My kids survived it, and so did I!
