We would have zero chance with some of the r****ded Battier trades people propose. Again for those who havent seen it the hundred times before.... Battier is expendible, but only for the right player(s).
I'm not the one who brought up those proposals. What I have been saying is that the 8th pick for Battier trade was a huge mistake.
Just have to reply to this. Tmac is the Starting SF for the team. Battier is sign to help the rox to guard PFs like Dirk who beat the rox the year before in the playoffs and to score points. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_acquire_Battier_in_tra-184447-822.html http://www.realraptalk.com/f30/new-rocket-boosts-add-pressure-t-mac-yao-jvg-6203/ Although I still love the trade, but sadly Battier is not able to guard PFs, and he is a liability on the offensive end.
If you don't think those stats meaningful, look for a play from yesterday's Laker-Rockets game. By the end of fourth quarter, When Ariza ran to the right, Shane ran to the left that made Fisher try to follow him a little bit. When Fisher realized Ariza would shoot 3, it's too late. That 3 made us into the overtime. Very smart move by Shane. Those things would not show on the stats.
Also not showing up in Shane's stats was him bobbling a pass from Scola that resulted in a turnover in a key overtime possession.
I saw that, but i'd like to see the replay, i thought scola was passing to someone behind shane because i thought the pass seemed high, or maybe shane just screwed it up, but yea, that was a key turnover.
so now we can all see Shane Battier is completely useless guarding Kobe now...Kobe is now going into Post-Up mode against Shane and Shane just throws his arms up in surrender and blanks out not knowing where to start this defensive assignment................................. battier couldn't get it done when it counted the most.........
Cool, can you give us some realistic proposals involving specific players you would trade Shane for? Thanks in advance.
Not having Yao hurt Shane's defense big time Shane defended kobe perfectly on each of those posts up. problem was not having Yao (or any legitimate 7 foot shot blocker) who normally takes up all that space in the paint. Kobe got in a lot closer on his posts up than he would have if Yao was there. Those 7-13 feet fadeaways become 11-17 feet fadeaways if Yao was in there and become that much harder. There are going to be nights where Kobe torches shane but he still defended each of those posts up perfectly Kobe was just able to get a lot deeper than he was able to in the past on Shane. Without Yao clogging the lane Kobe (or any other post up SG) will be able to do that with Shane this year. I figure that next season with Yao back in the middle Shane will go back to having his usual success effecting Kobe's efficiency. Factor in that whenever Kobe drive he didnt have to worry about a shot blocker as a secondary line of defense made it that much tough on Shane. Shane sent him to the right spots but then Kobe can get any shot off at any time and if there is no shot blocker to try to alter his shot he is just going to go in there trying to get layups or get to the line. There were a few plays where Kobe got in there and I kept thinking 'Man if Yao/Deke were in there no way Kobe gets to the line/makes that move/' Shane is fine with his defense on Kobe..Morey even tweeted last night that Shane contested every shot Kobe took, when trying to guard a player that is as great as Kobe it cant be a single effort it needs to be a team effort. The Rockets right now do not have the other pieces like in the past seasons to help Shane.
easy. all we want is an expiring contract and a pick/or a young prospect like Rudy Fernandez. Heres a few that makes sense: Shane Battier + Joey Dorsey + future 2nd round pick(s) for Marvin Williams Travis Outlaw + Rudy Fernandez + Jerryd Bayless Tyrus Thomas + any exp (Jerome James? lol) Marcus Camby Al Thornton + Rasual Butler
I would package him with Scola/Lowry or McGrady if it allows us to lock up any of these players for the next 3-4 years: Bosh, Lebron, Wade, Granger, Paul, Gasol, Aldridge, A.Jefferson, J. Johnson, Stoudamire (maybe), Rose (maybe), D.Williams, Rudy/Outlaw + Oden (maybe), Roy, D.Howard or Durant. If that means dumping his salary by trading for an expiring over the summer, so be it. How realistic is this, I dunno.
Shane actually says this in the book The Art of Basketball (see the thread I made). He said when he was in Memphis, he never had a big center that could block shots. The difference that separated him from other great defenders like Prince and Bowen was that they had security with their centers. When he came to Houston, Battier said he didn't have to worry about conserving his energy/fouls because he knew Yao was behind him so he could play a bit more aggressive defense.
Russell Westbrook was +41 tonight. Durant was +35. Jason Williams was +46 better than Jameer Nelson and was the only Magic player in the positive. No other Magic was anywhere close to even. Westbrook for da Hizeman? White Chocolate for da Hizeman?? http://www.nba.com/games/20091108/ORLOKC/boxscore.html
I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to accomplish with these ridiculous posts, but thanks for bumping my thread.
