I thought one of the announcers was Pat Miletich. He knows something about MMA. Probably knows jack about announcing, though... hehe. I agree with you. I like ground combat if it's tactical and between two guys that are grappling or wrestling well, but these guys were just scrambling and getting into positions they never even bothered taking advantage of. It was like a demo of various holds.
Agreed about the Shields/Mayhem fight. Shields dry humped him for 25 minutes. That would have been fine if he actually went for a submission or two but all he did was lay and pray.
Agreed. Been following Fedor's fights for awhile now, and sad to say I think he's past his prime now. Fedor was ineffective on the ground, and that's his strength. Another of his strengths are his judo/sambo throws/trips, but Rogers was so big, he had a much harder time taking him down. I think Fedor was a bit lucky that Rogers' lack of conditioning practically handed him the fight. In the 2nd round it was just a matter of time before Rogers went down. Lesnar vs Fedor... the cage would definitely be in Lesnar's favor (as opposed to the boxing rings that most of Fedor's wins have come in). If the fight ever happens I hope Fedor wins, but I'm not so sure he can anymore.
Out of all of Fedor's fights, I've only seen him stunned once. The guy can take a good hit. Even while Rogers was ground'n pounding him, Fedor shruggs it off and still grabs the arm for an armbar attempt. Most of his wins are by submission, and he loves to go for the armbar while in full guard. My first impression, by mere appearance, is that there is no way this guy is so dominant. He is, and it isn't an accident. A big, strong wrestler might give him a good fight. Brock may be able to beat him, but he's had very few fights, little real experience, and hasn't taken a good shot to the chin yet. I didn't see the fight live, but just watched it online. I haven't seen any reactions or post fight comments yet though. Rogers looks to have potential, and I can see him sticking in either the UFC or Strikeforce.

Have you seen Fedor vs Randleman? Randleman is a strong wrestler and gave Fedor a suplex that I thought broke Fedor's neck, but Fedor came back to submit him via kimura. Randleman isn't as big though.
Yes I did, but Fedor wasn't hurt at all (but could have been seriously). As you said, Randleman isn't overly big, and not overpowering in that matchup. Fedor was deliberate in his tactic, small punching Randleman in the head to make him give up his arm.
seriously, Fedor has come to losing once, when a stocky japanese dude landed a good right hook and Fedor stumbled, also against Randleman after the slam, other than that, he's beaten the crap out of everybody, and i expect nothing less against Lesner. Lesner is big, but the bigger they are, more they fall. Fedor is the best fighter, pound for pound, he just happens to be a heavyweight.
I thought the fight was stopped a little early. Rogers was still moving and attempting to defend himself. No doubt he was stunned but given a few more seconds, I think he would have regrouped.
fedor did pretty good for being outweighed by like 30 lbs. he was giving up alot of size to rogers. i'm not sure if he can make up the size differential to lesnar though who would be at least 30 lbs heavier as well, if not more.
Nah, he was exposing his back while holding his head. If I was Rogers I'd be happy that the ref called it when he did... would've gotten brutal if it continued (or possibly a rear naked choke).
Fedor has some pretty good experience facing guys who are bigger than him. Here is beating Hong Man Choi (7' 2", 320 lbs.): <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2i0iZcLIrTQ&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2i0iZcLIrTQ&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
The bigger they are the easier it is for Fedor to do a submission move.. Fedor is faster than Lesner so it won't be a problem for him to pull that of.
After watching that KO again I think that Fedor's gloves have grenades in them or at least some C4. The officials might want check that out.
hahah I was thinking the same thing.. When it happend i was like WTF was that? sounded as if he hit something that cracked..
After watching that fight, I'm not as sure as was before about beating Lesnar. I still think he has over a 80 percent chance of winning but Fedor really looked rusty and out of shape out there. Maybe its from being clocked in the early seconds. I don't know. It just goes to show, powerful guys always have a puncher's chance.
Outside of Rogers' GnP, I didn't think Fedor was in trouble almost at all...I figured Rogers would open the cut on his nose b/c Fedor's trainer was talking about how Aleks (his brother) had cut Fedor's nose when they were sparring a few days ago so Rogers was opening up a fairly new cut that already occurred... I think the amount of blood made it look worse than it was. Even in GnP, you could tell Fedor was waiting for his armbar...but definitely give Rogers credit - he is a legit heavyweight with some heavy hands but damn... that guy needs to work on his conditioning...he was gassing after the first couple of minutes in Rd 1.
