I think our 2nd unit is more fun to watch than the first unit is.... Lowry pushes the ball hard, and has two great finishers in Landry and Budinger playing with him......couple that with Andersen and either Ariza or Battier and they are just jetting up the court. It seems our first unit is about even with the other teams and runs more half court, then our 2nd unit demolishes the other team's 2nd unit. I would like to see Brooks push it more, but he doesn't have the finishers Lowry does. I love this team.....and right now, the 2nd unit is pulling away. Maybe they should be called "The tail lights" because that is all the opponent ever sees. DD
Hear Hear. I was telling the wife last night that our bench is going to take us to the playoffs. And we ARE going to the playoffs. (heck, aren't we leading our division? ) edit: just read that our bench has outscored opponents bench by 20 in the last three games...saweet!
Considering that 2/5 of the second team would normally be the third team because 2/5 of the first team would normally be the second team, that's quite a testament to individual players, the organization, the coach, and the philosophy they follow.
I agree, I love seeing Landry, Lowry, and Budinger coming in. Sometimes it feels like we're a better team especially when Brooks is having one of his bad games BTW, can you believe we're first in our division? I know it's early, but I'm pleasantly surprised
DaDakota has a good point about the second unit having better finishers in Landry and Budinger. All three of those guys are starter material, and the effect is often amplified because they are going up against an inferior opposing 2nd unit. That's why the Rockets' bench always seems to outscore the opposing bench by gaudy amounts ... even against a deep team like the Blazers.
Mods, I missed This thread by Pete Chilcutt please merge the two...as they are the same. My apologies. DD
Honestly, all three of them could start for the Kings... or the Warriors... so it's no wonder that they beat up and can out run the subs they are playing against. Plus it's all about Lowry... he pushes hard when he gets on the floor and whomever he's playing against in the other teams second string he can outrun and beat. Carl has had a great couple of games.. I just need him to continue that and not fade into obscurity for a couple of games following that up... which is what he had a tendency to do last year and his rookie season. Cbud, is just athletic and fun to watch.... plus his defense is getting better each time they put him out there.
Lowry and Landry make a good combo. Lowry penetrates, sucks in the D, then passes to Landry for the power dunk!
This puzzles me, Pops would of been a perfect fit in last night's game. Didn't he finish the pre-season with some great play?
That's what she said? Get it, unit? I think it's really hard to tell where our second unit begins and first unit ends when you're watching. The rotation really feels like that, a rotation. When you watch teams with a plethora of talent, there still seems to be this dropoff between the first and second units. Look at the Lakers. As soon as Kobe sits, you have the charlette bobcats out there. With us, it seems like our second unit is as important as our first.
Great thread DD, I was thinking exactly this during the last game. Budinger, Lowry, and Landry make so many things happen that our second unit as at least on par with our first. I love this team as well and I expect us to contend late into the season.
I don't think we have a true 2nd unit. We have a true 8-man rotation with all getting ample minutes and all capable of playing multiple positions. It is less important who starts games than it is who finishes them, and it seems the five on the floor at the end of close games varies based more on match-ups more than any 1st-team, 2nd-team distinction.
