VoR, you have no idea how much the Beatles "Kicked Ass." Most of the bands (if not all) listed in this thread grew up listening to the Beatles.

It is better not to post anything at all, than to post about something you know nothing about.

Most anything in the 1950's and early 1960's will count as a short song... that's the way they used to make them.

    More recent:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Greeting Song
    Counting Crows - Colorblind
Weird Al Yankovic - Gump (like "Lump", but better)
    REM - Texarkana

(haven't checked the times so maybe they just feel short :) )

Didn't even realize just how short these are...Help is one of my favorite all-time Beatles songs.

By ass-kicking, I thought the thread-starter just meant good...

The Beatles did kick ass though...

    That is correct.

Also, would like to add "Angel of Death" by Slayer and pretty much the entire "London Calling" CD by the Clash.

    EVERY song by the Ramones.

And Subterranean Homesick Blues. Which reminds me...

    EVERY song by Chuck Berry.

But back to Dylan. If you want a Dylan song that 'kicks arse' as you said (boy do I hate it when Americans say arse instead of ass -- it's almost as bad as '****e' for forced cleverness), try Jet Pilot.

I like the Beatles (or at least some of their songs), but to say they kicked ass?? Don't think so, Ringo was too wimpy a drummer and the rest of them played too pretty (even on the rock songs).

That's not a knock on the Beatles really. Kind of Blue is one of my favorite albums and it doesn't kick ass at all.

"*Finn you ignorant slut". ok it was Jane on SNL, but ya know its always fun to say.
Bob-o, I actually know quite a bit about music. The beatles yeah i like them. loved their movies even. especially loved their early years, however when i say they never kicked arse, I ment it. take the thread in context. blur song 2 kicks arse. it is not as good as many many many (in comandant lasards voice) Beatles tunes, but in a street fight it would kick their buts. by the way this post is ment to begin and end with little smilies, but i am trying to cut back.

    PEACE

VOR, I was only pointing out the Beatles kicked some serious ass in the 60's and to some people, still do today. Most people on this board were not around to witness how they changed music forever. Beatles music will be around FOREVER, so they must have done something right.

ahh, yes they did. they surely influenced millions. they surely got a few to pick up their guitars, but if its about influence, and how it led to an arse kicking song.... well do we go back to the beginnings of rock?? or mo town?? how about further back to swing, big band, or jazz (Flea was a Jazz man) further back to John Phillips Sausa? nah he was influenced, and inspired. Bach?? nahh he even had influences.

I know the first whistle blower ever, or first singer back in the cave days?? nope they were influenced by the birds. so the birds kicked arse.

oh yeah now I have my answer. "flock of seagulls" ;) hehe I amuse my own dumb self. yeah finn I see your point.

You bring up a good point that hasn't been mentioned in this thread. A great song knows no timeline. If it rocks for the first 5 years, will it rock for the next 30-40 years? Perhaps you can start a seperate thread, "Songs That Stand The Test Of Time"
