WTf is seriously going on in this forum lately? The guy has stepped up for us since he's been starting. He's had problems with consistency, but he's only in his third year and less than a year as a starter. Just adjusting to the nba would be tough for him due to his size. He's shown he's willing to step up and take big shots, and many have came without set plays, he makes the decision to take it and not pass...Brooks is oozing confidence, you can't play ball like him at his size without it. He just needs to keep gaining experience and he doesn't necessarily have to be a leader when he may have two better players in front of him and when so many of these guys are self-motivated. You don't need to tell any of them to wake up or keep their mind in the game..
I don't see overdribbling as a problem at all. He appears more than willing to run the offense and move the ball. The issues I see are too many plays where he tries to force things that aren't there along with an inability to consistently defend the much bigger PGs. The forcing things doesn't necessarily have anything to do with pounding the ball. It's more often a risky pass or dribbling into a bad spot on the floor. Again, that doesn't necessarily mean overdribbling. It can happen within a couple of seconds. It's more related to lapses in judgment. Tonight, he took zero shots in the first half. That hardly sounds like a ballhog. He doesn't even dribble the ball up the court on every possession. There are also times when it's obvious that Adelman wants him to look to score. You could see that was the case right at the start of the second half tonight. Adelman called a few plays for Brooks to get off some shots. The bottom line is that if we aren't starting Lowry, Brooks needs to cut down on the bad decisions that lead to turnovers. I don't know if he can do it. Time will tell. Also, Adelman needs to make sure the right help defenders are out there if Brooks is overmatched, defensively. That, or be willing to keep Lowry on the floor in those cases.
Well, Brooks and Francis are definitely different players. Francis better at finishing around the basket, while Brooks better with his jumpshot. But to be honest, if Brooks can be as affective as Francis when he was with the Rockets, that would be pretty damn awesome. Francis may not have turned out to be the "franchise" we wanted him to be, but he was a pretty damn good player.
Brooks scored 7 of his points in three consecutive possessions IIRC. Clyde called him "instant offense". Still seems like a great scoring punch off the bench, as in not starting. Lowry outplayed him for the 2nd consecutive game.
im guessing that u dont watch alot of rockets games... or basket ball period btw brooks arvg 8 assist a game
I do see Steve Francis qualities in Brooks' game. But if AB can become close to Francis' best (All-Star player), I don't think anyone will be complaining. I don't think he's that good yet. Better shooter though.
Thats my concern with Brooks. I believe he can get better but he has a limit. Even when he cuts down all those minor mistakes, the best he will be is a borderline all-star. An All-star who is best suited for a run n gun offense. What if we go back to an half court team. The guy will never grow. He will never be able to feed the post. How many PGs cant feed the post. How many coaches are there, like Adelman, who are dumb enough to keep trying to use midgets to feed the post.
No confidence? Is that why he has made clutch lay-ups/3's towards the end of the games? No confidence? I think you might want to reconsider your perception of Brooks. He is confident, but does not have a killer instinct.
