Video Shows Cop Punching Teenager LOS ANGELES –– An amateur video shows Inglewood police officers punching a teenager and slamming his head against the hood of a patrol car, and the department said it will investigate. The probe was announced Sunday after the tape, taken a day earlier from a nearby motel, was turned over to police and local media. The fight erupted after two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies stopped a car for a routine traffic check in Inglewood, a Los Angeles suburb, and were joined by three local officers, said sheriff's Deputy Bill Spear. The deputies and police "became involved in an altercation" with a 16-year-old passenger in the car, Spear said. The video shows an officer lifting a handcuffed teen from behind, then driving the side of the youth's face into the hood of the patrol car. Another officer later punched the suspect once in the face. "I don't think that he was resisting. I mean, there were five cops," Mitch Crooks, the Sacramento man who made the tape, told KNBC-TV. "The guy picked him up like he was a doll and slammed him on the car, and he wasn't resisting at that point. They already had him in custody." The passenger, whose name was being withheld, was booked for investigation of assault on a police officer. The driver, Coby Chavis, 41, was accused of driving under a suspended license. Inglewood police declined to name the officers involved in the incident. None were suspended, said Inglewood police Sgt. John Knapp.
I just saw the video of this and wasn't shocked at all. Just your typical example of the type of protection many of us have grown to expect over the years.
I haven't seen the tape, just please tell me its someone white. Not another King circus please!!!!!!!
Did anybody notice that of the 5 (?) cops in proximity to this, one was Black, one was Latino, and THE one dishing out the rough treatment was a White guy who was bleeding from the head for some reason. Also interesting to note that the family in the car at the next set of gas pumps was a Black family-- this happening in broad daylight in full view of witnesses. Anybody know the full story. Or shall we just convict?
The only part of the story I need to know is that the guy was in custody and handcuffed. I guess there will be an excuse for it anyway though.
Just saw on CNN that the boy has a mental disability of some sort. They didn't elaborate, but now it appears that the police have assaulted a in custody, hand-cuffed and now possibly mentally handicapped teenager. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
From what I saw he was roughly slammed down on the trunk of the police cruiser and then later punched in the face once. Was there more? How many millions will that be worth. Come take me! Give me the same treatment.. then quick let's go settle out of court. Hooray for the police (in general)!!! Oh, htownhero: Nice signature there! Do you have a lawyer. Give me his phone number. I want to sue for libel.
How much more does ther need to be? Where is the line? Is it Ok to punch an inmate just once? How about twice if it's Sunday, that seems fair. As far as th lawsuit goes(and yes, I agree there will be one coming) the question shouldn't be "How many millions will that be worth" it should be how many lawsuits will it take until police brutality is taken seriously by people like you. My sig clearly states that most republicans are bigots, but if you think that it applies to you who am I to argue.
The law sucks they are crooked...I am white and their are alot of racist cops. Black and White both crooked. I hope they get what they deserve.......Blast another and they will shutup.
Does no one else find it ironic that someone would use a bigoted statement to call most of a group bigots? That tape sure looks bad. There's certainly nothing ever that could justify slamming someone down like what's apparently on that tape and punching a suspect in custody as it apparently appears on this video. There probably is more to the story than we can see on the tape, but I cannot think of anything that could have happened outside what we see on that video that would justify what we did see. The sadder thing, I think, is that while many of us are upset by the images, none of us are particularly surprised that something like this could happen.
What do you expect from the LAPD? As for a statement that "most Republicans are bigots" - well, a bigot is someone who has a baseless, preconceived notion about a group of people. If you want to spread the totally unconfirmed information that "most Republicans are bigots", then how are you not a bigot (anti-Republican) yourself? (I don't mind disagreeing on politics; it's the American way. But why must people resort to labeling and name-calling in the meantime? )
OK OK the sig is a short term joke stemming from the BrianKagy - Mrs.JB tussle in another thread, I will change it shortly. I'm not just anti-Republican if it makes a difference though, I think Democrats are just as dirty and corrupt. edit Sorry I just saw this Kickass, I made a sig. WoooHoooo!
I just read an article about the LA gang cop they based Denzel Washington's character on in Training Day. Those guys were capable of anything (the undercover detectives) they were basically a gang with badges. The majority of the street cops are good guys its just a small percentage that take it over the edge. When they lose it everyone gets caught up in the frenzy. The NY cops that raped an innocent guy with a plunger in the station house is the sickiest i've heard of --- especially sickening was the "blue wall of silence" that protected them for a while. Can you imagine protected someone at your average job that did something like that---cops need a better system to regulate their actions.
whenever you're doing something bad it's: **** THOSE DONUT EATING COPPERS!! whenever you're in trouble and need help it's: thank gawd you're here officer, i dont know what i would have done if you hadn't come along and saved me.
