Got this mp3 interview off ESPN.com: <embed src= "http://www.odeo.com/flash/audio_player_standard_gray.swf" quality="high" width="300" height="52" allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars= "valid_sample_rate=true&external_url=http://podloc.andohs.net/dloadTrack.mp3?prm=2814xhttp://a.espnradio.com/podcenter/nbatoday/nbatoday091106.mp3" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"> </embed>
Good stuff. I like the point Morey made about looking for what wins games, whatever that is. Seems like he thinks playing hard is undervalued but if something else wins games then he is all for that as well (see Tracy Mcgrady). I also like the point he made that there will always be a significant portion of the game that cannot be quantified, I agree.
Good find. Aside from Morey's interview, I agree with what they were talking about Rondo. Team who can't get a Lebron or Wade next summer is going to go hard on those 2nd tier players and probably overpay them for it. I just wonder how Houston is going to attract a 1st/2nd tier players since Rockets don't have as much as cap space as other teams.
Thank you durvasa. I think Morey is amused by his reputation. I've often wondered which GMs he connected with when he and CD were making the rounds, and since. I mean, we heard rumblings that we're too high on our guys, but I wonder if that's a majority opinion throughout the league.
I knew Morey had been trying to blow up Battier's trade value. Don't deny it DM. Nice analysis of the Rondo situation at the end.
I was a bit suprised because I thought he would use Shane's value and contract to lure another piece but obivously he values Shane to much so while he might be lying it did not sound as if. I think TMAC is the key to any player we try and aquire but also consider Landry as teams see him play more they will find him very interesting.
I would imagine, even if he was thinking of trading Shane, they wouldn't get the same value for him in return. I thought that back when you all wanted to trade him for Outlaw. Great find d, I love listening to Morey talk his way around the questions he doesn't want to answer
yet it's still interesting to listen to him...and the guy seems very easy going and up front most of the time...i wonder if he ever crunches numbers involving teams/players from like thw early 90s, im sure he has but to waht extent, i'd like to hear some stats about our championship teams
Good find... I can't post a thread so i guess this is a good place to say it... DM spoke about signing a veteran ( i assume ) free agent that was on the delcine or whatever he said during the offseason. Does anyone know who he was refurring 2?? Allen Iverson maybe? IDK i was just wondering. When he talked about not trading Battier ( which i believe is a lie because a good offer could come up where he can't pass up on ) it hit me in the head about the guy he was talking about in the summer
Why does it have to be a lie? He said he's not "looking" to trade shane. I don't think he's lying about that, it means he's not making the calls himself. He never said he wouldn't take calls from others and consider it then.
I say its a lie because most G.Ms say we are not trading this guy we are not trading him he is in our plans for the future then poof pow the guy is gone. Example.. Rafer Alston. We are not trading Rafer. He is our point guard. Next thing you know it. gone.
it's been known that when morey took over, he tried to trade rafer alston for the longest time. morey and adelman never wanted rafer to be the starting PG. but we had to keep him b/c he's a decent starter, and we had LUTHER HEAD as the back up at the time. rafer talked about the possibility of being traded before the 07-08 season during training camp too.
do you understand the difference between "we are not trading him", which is your example, and "we're not looking to trade him", which is what Morey said? Morey chooses his words carefully. He's not planning on trading shane or trying to, but he's open to it if someone calls him. Rafer's trade had alot to do with Tmac deciding to get surgery and houston needing more than a point guard who just sets up an offense and launches 3s.
