http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8337721.stm I wonder who they are going to get to not play muhammad!
I want to see this. But, I would never want to be part of a project like that. It is bound to piss off millions of people.
It sounds like they want to be sensitive to the religion, so I doubt there will be a lot of blasphemy problems. But, I would expect this or that faction to be upset with the doctrinal slant of the movie. Will Sunnis see it as pro-Shi'ite, or vice-versa? Also, mix in christians who will see the movie as an endorsement and/or glorification of a false prophet.
So they are going to have a movie about Muhammad but they can't show him on screen. Uh, this is going to be awesome. I also can't see why having someone play Muhammad on screen is blasphemous. Was it one of the 10 Islamic Commandments? Thou shalt not make a movie out of me. Weird.
I'd rather watch a well done and epic movie (thinking Gladiator-like, or Braveheart-like) about Saladin.
This has been done before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad,_Messenger_of_God And it wasn't too bad.
Kingdom of Heaven? Granted it was not exactly a biography of Saladin's life, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Anywho, I do not think a Saladin movie will be forthcoming from Hollywood any time soon, what with right-wing Christians and Jews running the show and all
lol awesome name btw. But about what you said, muslims aren't allowed to to depict muhammad in some sort of picture or way, or any prophet for that matter
Did you even read the article? It says it is meant to show the "True" meaning of Islam, and it means well. The only problem would be to show face, which they won't. Can't see why someone would get pissed off when something informative like this comes out
We're not allowed to depict Muhammad PBUH. The cartoons were mockery - their aim was to disrespect. Someone will be upset by this movie somewhere, but who cares. As long as the intention is to do it in a respectful way and not to attack something outright. Even an outright attack does not deserve the reaction it received for the cartoons. It deserves indifference. No one can stop anyone from depicting Prophet Muhammad PBUH in any way. The risks associated with doing so are the responsibility of the people doing it. There are crazies out there in any belief system. I hope that they completely leave out all sect-related issues and make this a representation of what can generally be agreed upon by ALL Muslims. personally, I think that would provide the truest picture. Don't want anyone fighting for their side. I like it. But it has the potential to be the most controversial movie ever made. Somehow, I doubt it ever gets made. In fact, I'd be willing to wager that it doesn't.
Pretty cool. I hope it happens and idiots don't ruin it in some way. I'll definitely watch it. For Muslims : is the fact they're not showing His face the result of a direct request by Muhammad to not depict Him in any way or is this a direct/literal interpretation of the 2nd Commandment? Or possibly both? I ask because I thought I had read somewhere that Muhammad didn't want anyone to draw pictures of Him or depict Him because He was just a prophet and He instead wanted the focus of worship to be on God/Allah.
