That is truly pathetic. However, you can't overlook his intangibles. He kept Brooks in check nearly the entire game...
While I didn't notice he had a triple zero, I thought during the game how bad Fisher was. He's terrible. Even with Kobe at SG, the giant hole the Lakers have at PG could sink them in the post-season. I expect them to make a move before the trade deadline if Shannon Brown or Farmar don't raise their game up enough to deserve 25-30 mins of floor time. PJ loves Fisher and trusts him. The Lakers keep winning regular season games anyway. Maybe they'll stand pat and roll the dice. If AB wasn't off, the Rockets would have won in regulation. Tonight we saw the 7 players on the roster that Adelman really trusts. I wonder how much time Chase would have gotten.
but he had a good defense on AB, and picked some offensive fouls, but he is bad. Poor the guy who got him in a fantasy league hehe
the good defense is him just grabbing and holding with reckless abandon. Its like how sasha and how he swipes endlessly; he won't stop unless they call a foul on him.
Fisher couldn't crack the rotation on 90% of the teams in the league. It's a testament to how talented the rest of the Laker starters are (and how bad the backup PG's are) that he is still getting minutes. If he was not allowed to play by 1980s rules he wouldn't even get time for the Lakers. He will be their undoing in the playoffs.
The Lakers' help defense kept Brooks in check, not Fisher alone. Brooks also kept himself in check with some sloppy play and bad decision-making.
Entering the season, IMO, the Lakers' biggest weakness was PG. Fisher is only getting older, and it seems they have no faith or confidence in Farmar. Brown could be a nice fit, but he's not getting consistent minutes. If the Lakers don't win the chip this year, it will be because of point guard play.
I've been saying this for years now. Not only is he terrible, but he walks around like he owns the court because he comes in and makes a few dirty "veteran" plays to let the other team know the Lakers are all business. He's always been terrible, so he's compensated through other means such as being well spoken off the court and a dirty player on it. Career FG% of 40% and 3.2 APG for a PG. Guys like him and Bruce Bowen ruin the aesthetic quality of basketball.
Except for the last one, I agree. They won last year, despite their point guard play. But every other year, he's been there to hit a lot of big shots.
It's crazy to say he doesn't deserve his rings, but without playing next to Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher's NBA career would have been invisible to most people. He has been incredibly overrated for years, but that's what happens when you play next to a guy that masks your deficiencies. The poster child for this concept is Damon Jones with the Heat, who's career was a big zero except when he played next to Wade. Of course I know Fisher is a better player than Damon Jones. He also hit big shots at times and fit their system perfectly since the triangle doesn't demand much from a PG when Kobe Bryant is the SG.
I know Fisher and Kobe are buds but if I'm the Mamba I'm looking over at this guy who is the least productive rotation PG in the league and thinking "this guy is going to cost me a Championship" I cannot figure out why the Lakers have not made a move. Even a minor one could go a long way. I know if somehow the Rockets face the Lakers in the playoffs again someone needs to send a Mark Cuban-esque mix tape of Fisher's "defense" followed by plenty of "Fisher fouls on every play" tidbits to the media. If he isn't allowed to headlock and hammer-fist opponents on every play the Lakers don't beat this Rockets team in a series.
