Atlanta is proving that old adage that blacks will only vote for black candidates is slowly becoming a myth more than reality. The same maybe able to be said of Houston as well given the results of yesterday's election.

Both city's runoffs will be interesting

let's see what happens in the atlanta runoff- i'm unconvinced Norwood can hold on. and the vote on 11/4/2008 undercuts your argument.

because blacks voted with the rest of the country? I hope your argument is that the white candidate has to win for me to be right

no, but blacks voted for Obama at dramatically higher rates than the rest of the country (95+ percent).

But they didn't vote for Obama at dramatically higher rates than they voted for Kerry in 2004, or Gore in 2000, or Clinton in 1996...

The only reason must be his race? Are you saying that blacks couldn't look at the issues and decide that Barack appealed to their issues art a higher race?

Why are you calling black voters stupid? Don't pretend like you aren't. Judging by the logic used in your Justice Department thread, you have condemned yourself.

Obama would have gotten 95 percent of the black vote if he was white. I suppose a case can be made that black voter turnout was higher (I haven't googled this) because of him being black but I wouldn't frown down upon that at all. First major black presidential candidate is a pretty historical.

Atlanta's Mayor has always been a kind of "wink wink" office. Whites heavily control the way the city is run and developed but in recognition of the fact that 70% of the city is black, they have allowed for controllable black mayors.

Politics and race there are really strange (and upsetting for me). At least they were up to 2003 when I left.

So black voters that vote Democratic are stupid despite the fact that the Republican Party is openly hostile to their interests and poor and lower middle class white voters who ignore their economic interests to vote Republican aren't stupid. It's awesome how that works.

I've proven your racism with your own quotes before.

I did nothing in this thread but use basso's own logic. Check out his thread about the Justice department supposedly believing blacks are stupid. If you have a problem with anything in the post you quoted talk to basso. It's his own way of thinking, not mine.

lol you haven't proven anything, other than the fact that you can run your mouth and slander others around here without getting called out for it, since this place is such a haven for like-minded liberals such as yourself.

You neglected to mention a popular president, super majorities in both houses, significantly higher favorability ratings, generic ballot ratings and party ID than the opposition party and, soon, national health care reform -- a gigantic thing that presidents have tried and failed to do for decades.

In other words, Democrats run pretty much everything. We don't have any reason at all to "cry racism" where none exists. bigtexxx has demonstrated his feelings about race on this board several times, as FB said. And they aren't pretty.

Really? Can I get a link to some recent polls? And does favorability=approval?

It doesnt matter who the Democrats field... the minority vote, including blacks is theirs to lose. Barack may have upped the black vote a bit, but it would have been practically the same had Clinton clinched the nomination. As a minority, you would have to hold your nose and ignore the stench of numerous racist incidents involving high profile republicans.

Which is why I chuckle anytime Michael Steele defends the repubs.
