What's the Best Coffee House in Austin? I am currently visiting Cafe Java on Metric because its close, the coffee's good, and generally they play the music quiet enough for me to hold a conversation or read. I like Mojo's coffee, but hate the place. I like Spiderhouse near Trudy's and still make the trek there every now and then. Metro's nice. Mozart's is a cool place down south, but is a little overhyped in my opinion. I also go to the Barnes & Noble's Cafe at the Arboretum to read a lot, but its usually packed. Reader's Advantage card gets me 10% off and I happen to like Starbuck's coffee. I would say Cafe Mia's coffee on Far West is below par (not bad) for Austin places, but they make a good smoothie.
1. Mozart's Coffee Roasters 2. Starbucks 3. Ruta Maya Coffee Company 4. Jo's 5. Spider House 6. Little City Espresso Bar & Cafe 7. Cafe Java 8. Kenny's Coffee Co 9. Flipnotics Coffeespace 10. Crescent City Beignets INC [/list=1] SOURCE: http://austin.citysearch.com/best/results/28
I don't trust a list that has Mozart's and Starbucks as one two. Not that I don't like them, I just think that Spider House should be above them. Cafe Java's coffee is probably on par (I haven't had enough samples yet) with Mozart's, but depending on the atmosphere desired would determine the better of the two. I've been doing the low key thing lately so I prefer Cafe Java, but Mozart's is defitely the cooler place to go.
Ditto to the coffeehouses in Houston. Are there any estb. with live music? So far I really enjoy (all around the Montrose/Westheimer area): 1) Dietrich's - coffee time in the afternoon, early evening or late nights on weekends 2) Empire Cafe - Good for brunches on Sundays and lunches and casual dinners and that sort of thing. That and you can smoke inside 3) Brazil - The "healthy menu" is pretty good, but the seating area outside is really small 4) Starbucks or any of the big bookstores like Borders/Barnes & noble
I haven't found a better cap in Austin than the one I make at home. Starbucks is usually ok, but a lazy barista turns a cap into a latte. We thought the caps at Ruta Maya sucked, and Mozart's weren't great (but the deck is cool). The best caps this side of Genoa are at Peets in California.
I'm about to start going to a place on Duval at 51st or so, I believe it's called Flightpath. Decent coffee and you get to plug into their network if you have a wireless card.
I guess I'm looking for something more like Sweet Eugenes or Dead Lazlo's in College Station Laid back . . .atmosphere. . . decent food. . . couches tables etc just really relaxed Rocket River haven't been to College Station in years. . . are those still there?
Flightpath, MoJO's, Little City, Flipnotics, Book People (Little City) Quacks on Duval--- I'm about a minute away
Little City, Cici's, and Metro are all good places to go on the Drag. Spider House next to Trudy's is where the intellectual Lib. Arts students hangout. My favorite place to take a chick if she doesn't want to go drinking downtown is Mozart's off Lake Austin.
Les Amis - no, the bastards at Starbuck's put it out of business Quackenbush's (on The Drag) - no, the bastards at Starbuck's put it out of business Crescent City - great Cafe au Lait, terrible atmosphere (not a place to lounge or read) I've converted to Bubble Tea... CoCo's Momoko Pango Veggie Heaven hmmm... I think I have some issues to resolve...
