Honestly, I figured he would have to avg more points this season. Mainly because if he didn't coach wouldn't be able to leave him on the floor. They were very concerned about "where will the points come from" before the season started. And they NEED him on the floor defensively. I am more excited about him getting a chance to show how he can pass than the scoring or the steals. We need him to be a good passer out of the top of the post and so far it's working pretty well. He had a bad stretch there for about three possessions in the second half last night, but overall he's done fairly well at getting the ball to people where they can make a play when we he's initiated the offense. The guys are doing very well at cutting off of him and each other too, making those passes even more important.
Averaging 2.5 steals per game right now. Got to love those extra possessions created by the Chuckernaut's lightning quick hands.
I also Chuck and apology. I didn't feel he could contend in the post in the west. The 2 teams that concern me are the Blazers (Aldridge) Lakers with Gasol going against Chuck. There isn't another big man in the west who can overwhelm Chuck. Plus, he may not block shots but you are automatically going to get a charge trying to drive against him.
Yea but did he ever looks this good??!! lol Seriously his best year was 06-07 and just with my human eyes never saw him cut and slash so well along with a freaking post move hook shot he has shown this season. JVG maximized Chuck's abilities to perfection but I believe Adelman is expanding them.
This brings up a good question. Can Chuck make the all defensive team considering he will have a high number of steals this year? I would bet he will lead the league for charges taken by a center (does anyone keep that stat? maybe Morey) and there is almost no way to measure how well he stays in front of his man and helps out. Obviously the main defensive stat for a center is blocks per game so I think Chuck's style of defense for a center would confuse the voters. I think we (Clutchfans) would have him on the all defensive team but the voters won't even consider him because of his size.
I just posted about Chuck Hayes being the biggest suprise of the season not because of his defense because that is always solid but his offense. He has confidence that he can contribute offensively, creating his own shots, making hook shots, this guy is amazing, I admire Chuck Hayes, he is a huge part of our sucess!
Jason was talking about this with Adam Wexler last week... he wants to start a grassroots movement to get Chuck acknowledged on the all defensive team. The main thing would be to get the main-stream media to talk about his defense.. which is difficult to do when they aren't exposed to as many of our games.
Pretty much the prime reason I enjoy the Rockets so much this year is Hayes. Remember last year during that CRAP start? When we had a new lineup each night? Nobody played consistently. Even Scola was starting to lose enthusiasm. Not Hayes. Chuck came and played the same every single night. LIKE A MAN.
Chuck's only 26 years old. Doesn't seem like that's possible, but he is. The guy's still growing his game.
I wouldn't say Brooks is the key to his success. Chuck has improved his offensive game a great deal. Layups he used to miss are going in with regularity now. Also, the paint is less clogged without Yao so he doesn't have to worry about weakside shotblocking.
Love watching him play, he just works hard and you can tell he has worked on many different areas of his game in the off season. That left handed hook haha that actually looked good.
Age doesnt matter when it comes to seniority in a team or any organization. It's the position and responsibilites you hold. Chuck's always had offensive game (see college), but he never was able to translate it to the NBA level. I think the fact he was made co-captain and being asked to do more by the coaching staff have contributed to his offensive 'explosion' more than working on his game could've.
He is not a surprise to me. His defense is always the best in the League. His ball IQ is always good. When he takes more role in the offensive side, he will also do a better job for sure.
only if Chuck Hayes was 3-4 inches taller........ he would get more respect nationally... he has quick hands...and crap load of steals...
Chuck is deceptively slow, which means he's quick. Opponents tend to sleep on him, when they do, he can make them pay. But, Chuck's offensive skill is still limited ...
Hope that Wex has Jason on more often. I sent him a message on facebook about that. Jason brings a different element to us as Rockets fans. I think he's getting better and better his role with the Rockets.
Chuck has just been amazing. I'm definitely enjoying watching Chuck on offense right now. It's been very surprising for me.
Everyone always mentions how Landry can improve he's 26, how Brooks can emerge, Dorsey has room to get better. Even Pops Mensah Bonsu gets talked in that way. But Chuck Hayes is never mentioned. Why does he have to be considered a fixed product? He has a permanent unfixable height disadvantage, but he certainly has room to improve on things himself. Chuck can polish up his touch around the basket, free throw shooting, conditioning, and it have immediate results just the same.
suprised? nope. we all knew what type of player chuck is and what he can do for the team. he's playing 27 mins comparing to last year's 12 mpg. it is expected that his stat sheet will look alot better.
