This is textbook box score watching vs watching the game and appreciating the little things. Battier wasn't exactly an offensive threat out there... made a few threes, got a few boards, 1 block, 0 steals, 4 dimes. Doesn't seem like a major impact... right? Rockets with Battier on the court: +36 Rockets without Battier on the court: -19 I'm sure the haters will just look the other way and bash the +/- statistic because it doesn't support their Battier agenda. Wasn't Shane supposed to be useless against Utah since their best scorers aren't players Shane would guard?
He is the unofficial player-coach. He plays to win the game. He gives it his all. He doesn't save anything and it rubs off on the other players.
That's insane. Love this team. As big a fan as I am of Tmac, I don't think I want him back. He'd be taking Shane and Budinger's minutes and I think they're more efficient players for this system.
Yeah that's an incredible stat, even though Morey would say it's a little misleading (he uses much more sophisticated metrics). The weird thing is it's hard to point to any one thing that explains it.
I'm glad and unsurprised Shane is still pretty much Shane. All that talk about being more aggressive and all... its just not his game. He already knew that though.
his composure, the way he chased off Deron all-over the court was simply amazing. and he's still effective on 3s, and having so much impact on other players ,mentoring them how to stand in the way to create offensive fouls....bravo!!!!!!
Brooks was having a lot of trouble containing Deron Williams early. Adelman switched Battier onto Williams, and he just shut him down. That's when the Rockets really started to take control.
It's clear that Battier's failure to cheer hard enough while on the bench was causing the Rockets not to have any energy. The negativity was infectious whenever he gets benched and complains incessantly.
Not exactly. Against teams like Utah, who have big men that are shooters, Yao is pretty much useless. See Toronto game last year.... Of course, against Dwight Howard, Shaq, Gasol, and Duncan, our defense sucks.
I'd also like to know his +/- for last season's playoffs, if somebody could find it for me. Thanks in advance.
Historically speaking Battier has struggled a lot against them. This is not an opinion,it's a fact. I'm very happy to see him having a great game.
he leads on the floor and from the bench. he is the father figure for this team and encourages these new guys to play at their best level.
