What a bunch of BS. Zvereva was hardly a doubles specialist until late in her career. She won a bunch of singles titles and went deep into several majors too. Same for Woodbridge and Woodforde. Both of those guys were ranked in the top ten, or very close to it in singles earlier in their career. Zina Garrison was hailed as a doubles specialist, but she was ranked regularly in the top 10-15, and lost a Wimbledon final to Navratilova. Kournikova got as high as number 8 in the world. Doubles is "viewed" as not as important, because it gets little airtime, which in my opinion is lame. Doubles is a faster paced game with typically very exciting net play. I actually enjoy watching doubles much more (and used to enjoy playing it more as well) than singles.
the only thing it means when ana is a great doubles player but not a great singles player is that shes not strong. she doesnt need to be either. she will always have more money then me because of her tennis skills. how many pretty girls are there in the world. if she had no tennis just looks she would not be succesful. that said, i watch her when she plays not because of her game.
Outlaw, I want to ask you something, but I don't want it to sound offensive, I genuinly want to know. Why is it that we hear a lot from the Gay community that sexual orientation should not matter, yet it seems that whenever someone "comes out" it matters a lot, but mostly to the gay community? well speaking for myself and not on behalf of the entire gay community, I think it's important for us to be as visible as possible. We need heroes and leaders and if they are accesible to the straight world so much the better. I understand what you are saying DaDa but we're talking about the ideal situation vs the reality of it. People still honor Jackie Robinson, why can't we do the same thing?
