Buck, thanks for the article. If you read through this thread, I did expose the real debate about this subject- who should pay to cleanup the "orphan" sites? It is hard for me to fathom that some Americans think it is moral for our government to forcibly extract money from a law abiding company to pay for another company's toxic waste. To me, that is stealing. Unfortunately, many Americans have bought into the class warfare propaganda from the likes Seelye or Bob Herbert of the New York Times. To these disillusioned Democrats, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor seems just fine. I think the Democrats in Congress who are attacking Bush on this issue realize that they have to lie about the facts, or they won't get support. Read through this thread, and see how many intelligent people go rushing to attack Bush based on this bogus article.
Bump. Jeez you conservatives and liberals, Democrats and Republicans are all the same. So caught up in defending labels and attacking the other. I mean, can you really listen to guys like Rush Limbaugh or some other twit, liberal OR conservative, that makes his $ by opposing people because of their "label." tbagain, come on, do you assume people are evil because you consider them "liberals?" Believe me, you have a lot in common with these people you are so set on opposing. I believe most of us, whether considered "liberal" or "conservative", want a better future for humanity and our world. Personally, I don't consider myself anything. I hear beautiful things come out of the mouths of "conservatives" AND "liberals" and value each person on individual merit. And, yes, "liberal" equates to change. And positive change is good change. Change is inevitable. Everyone is liberal. And, yes, many "conservative" values are important and constant. Change could only be for the worse. Everyone is conservative Can't we meet somewhere in the middle and not let the judgmental bigotry and intolerance hold us back. tbagain, what is the road to hell paved with? I'd still like you to explain that one. Handbags? really???
Ugh...this thread's come back. It's like the time I ate the bad Chinese food -- it just wouldn't stay down. Seriously, right1, thank you for a very honest and mature post. We all get so entrenched in our opinions, that we forget we're dealing with other people who are very much like us. I know I can become more wrapped up in proving my point than listening to others. That's a recipe for conflict. It's funny -- all sides of the arguement really do have the same drive: to do what's best for our country. We just all have different ideas on how to get there.
Right1, before you accuse me of thinking people are "evil" for their political beliefs, and then assuming this imagined fact for the sake of your illogical conclusion, please provide a direct quote for proof. How interesting that you single me out in a thread which- ..... Has a provocative title that was meant to stimulate coarse political debate ..... Used an article that was purposely misleading ..... is devoid of a serious discussion of the actual facts, except for my question, THAT I ASKED SEVERAL TIMES (lol), to my DEBATE COMBATANTS (he growled) who should pay to cleanup the "orphan" sites? and is it moral for our government to forcibly extract money from a law abiding company to pay for a law breaking company's toxic waste? Perhaps you should ask the folks who misrepresented the facts, smeared our President with partisan zeal, and refused to debate the actual facts why this discussion became so testy. btw, I enjoyed the hell out of this thread, and if you don't like my tone, or the partisan Democrat's tone, too bad. I like dishing it out, and I can take all the cyber-abuse these nice people can heap upon me.
