Thought about this the other day:

If you had to choose between snakes, spiders, mice, and cave crickets (very fearsome but really harmless yet you don't know that when they are jumping right into you!), which one scares you the most?

I'm going with snakes although the other 3 can get under my skin as well.

    SPIDERS!

I kinda grew up on island jungles and as a kid I'd "run through the jungle" and right into a friggin spider web that was the home of some big ass banana spiders (don't know the real name but that's what we called them).

Or pulling oneself over a huge boulder just to be face to face with them. Ugh.

Although I've experienced snakes on land and in the water, nothing comes close as spiders do. They just creep me out.

Dude are you talking about the long skinny black and yellow spiders????

OMG they creeped me out. Growing up in Hawaii I used to do the same thing you just wrote.

    I voted spiders

The only one of those that I have an irrational fear of are banana spiders/ golden orb spiders. Freak me out.

I voted snakes, although my fear for them is only of a practical nature. I have pretty much zero fear of mice, spiders, or crickets. Maybe that's because if it really came down to it, I could crush all of them fairly easily with my foot. :p

Actually, when I worked at the SPCA a snake specialist would come in and do presentations for summer camp kids. He always brought snakes for the kids to pass around, and of course none of them were poisonous or particularly dangerous in any way. However, there were still plenty of people who refused to touch them, including one of the male camp counselors. He was petrified even of the smallest snake. Personally I had a blast whenever the snake guy made an appearance.

Here I am with an albino boa constrictor wrapped around me (yeah, it was sort of copping a feel).

I can deal with anything except for spiders. I don't know where it comes from, but I have some very deep seated fear of those ****ers and I can't seem to control myself if I'm ever in a situation where one gets on me or very nearly gets on me. I pretty much start screaming like a girl. Oddly enough, I am perfectly fine with daddy long-legs. Maybe because those have such small bodies I can't even really tell what is going on there. It's the spiders' faces that really creeps me out.

Spiders give me goosebumps. I can squash 'em no problem (so it's not a phobia), but I do have a mild fear of them. Every time I do the laundry, I worry about a Brown Recluse lurking in the clothes (it has happened many times around the country).

**** roaches. None of the others scare me. I used to fight spiders and crickets when I was younger. Snakes, unless the venomous, are no bother to me. And mice are only yucky if they carry disease.

I have expressed my hatred of mice, but more so, RATS, after living above a subway station for two years in NYC.

OMG Manny. Can't believe we let this one slip by:

    Spider and Snakes

    JIM STAFFORD, DAVID BELLAMY

I remember when Mary Lou said, "You wanna walk me home from school?"
Well I said yes I do
She said I don't have to go right home
And I would kinda like to be alone some if you would
    I said me too
And so we took a stroll and wound up down by the swimming hole
And she said do what you want to do
I got silly and found a frog in the water by a hollow log
And I shook it at her and I said, "This frog's for you." She said,

I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
    You fool, you fool
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
Like I wanna be loved by you

Well I think of that girl from time to time, I call her up when I got a dime
I say, "Hello baby. She say, "Ain't you cool."
Said, "Do you remember when, and would you like to get together again"
She said "I'll see you after school"
I was shy and so for awhile most of my love was touch and smile
So she said, "Come on over here."
I was nervous as you might guess
Still looking for something to slip down her dress
And she said, "Let's make it perfectly clear." She said

I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
    You fool, you fool
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
Like I wanna be loved by you
