well.. that sounds rather ignorant itself, doesn't it..? afterall, if you take a pure honest look at it.. you'll realize it's not just a mere matter of people who are predisposed to disliking popular music taking offense to it.. for no damn good reason, other than their own ignorant predisposition to disapprove of anything popular.. but actually, a matter of the music that happens to be popular, itself, being terrible.. let's face it.. every generation has their moments of less than adequate music somehow hitting an audience at the right time which in turn makes the song, be it poorly composed and written, or just severely artistically lacking, a hit.. but a good palpable majority of mainstream music today is just simply dreadful.. you can't deny it.. as I've said before, not every song has to be profound, infact to consciously attempt to be so is to be the exact opposite of.. and not every song must be so intricately designed and diligently constructed.. but if every single song that keeps coming out just keeps sounding like more of the same, with the invest of effort, time and heart of a mass-production/assembly line.. you tend to get fed up, tired of it, and downright offended.. or, at least those who truly appreciate music as something more than just something to help you get through an afternoon at the office, compliment a weekend's mid-day trip to the mall, accompany your exercise regimen, or shimmy your way from the recliner to your refrigerator, do..
not to mention seeing people that actually praise and embrace the "work" as such.. despite it being anything but.. adds insult to injury.. in this very thread you had a person actually compare the freaking black eyed peas to Michael Jackson.. such historical misrepresentations and distorted skewing of musical achievements, when comparing the past to present.. aren't isolated incidents these days.. but rather, pretty damn prevalent.. it's what keeps new mediocrity piling on the previously discarded mediocrity with no stop or change.. so those who wish to voice their "opinions" against it.. aren't all doing it for the sake of being anti-popular.. or a so-called "music snobs".. but, instead, simply trying to deter prevailing falsehoods from getting out of control.. and for certain individuals, from getting to the point of no return..
Agree.. all in all its just plain ignorance, which unfortunately is prevalent today in all aspects of society. I mean there was a time where all i listened to was 104 pop top 40 trash because I was not aware of better music. Granted, I was 14 at the time but still
I agree. I mean you don't have to be a hipster, elitist, reading Pitchfork ( ), but c'mon there is so much better music these days that doesn't have a corporate underpinning to it. The radio plays what the record industries pay them. I always laugh when people say there is no good music these days. Most people never bother to venture out listening to music other than their FM dial. Like you said, it comes down to ignorance, but more so about laziness. Granted, some people aren't as passionate about music, but I don't think it gives them the right to complain about music today being terrible. Mainstream might be terrible, but not everything is bad. Especially in the indie and underground scene. We are in the golden age of music in the indie rock genre right now. That being said, the music they play on the radio today, should only be played in a night club frequented by drunken high school youths after 12AM.
